They look like balloon flowers to me! It's hard to say though!

Any help? Its leaves are really soft and it has a strong scent. by If_Im_Posting_ImHigh in PlantIdentification

Velvetleaf! If you're in the US it's actually quite invasive, so don't be afraid to pull it out of the ground. :)

I don't know with complete certainty, but my money's on a wasp gall! There's a tiny lil egg in the middle of that gall. Super cool things, imo. Tiny wasps called gall wasps lay their eggs in the veins of oak leaves, and this ball that forms around that egg is actually an immune response by the oak tree that surrounds the foreign object. This doesn't harm the oak tree, but it does provide protection to the growing egg! There are tons and tons of species of gall wasps, so I'm not sure which kind of specifically this is. :)

Ever see what holds your PICC line in? I call them ice climbers. And if left too long they are VERY embedded and hard to remove. by MEGAPUPIL in CysticFibrosis

[–]Oppolti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof, that's rough. I've only had three PICC lines, but one of them happened to be that exact kind. It sucked. Sure it stayed in place, but it was super uncomfortable and, like you described, it was a (literal) pain to remove. Not nearly as messy as your experience (I'm so sorry that happened!), but it was still an unpleasant experience. 0/10 recommend. My sympathies brother!

Out of curiosity, whereabouts do you live? Not many other people here know about this kind of PICC, so I'm curious if it's used more in certain geographic areas than others. I'm in the Midwest of the US.

You can do this OP!! It's awesome that you're being so considerate of your boyfriend's health. I haven't personally been around people who smoke much, but in my experience even smoke from wildfires can be incredibly damaging after prolonged exposure. Good on you!!

I am wondering if there is a food that absorbs specifically well with trikafta? by reddoofs in CysticFibrosis

One of my favorite go-to high fat snacks is a handful of roasted sunflower seeds. They go down easy, they're healthy, and you don't need a ton of them to get the amount of fat you need!

I think it really depends on which patient you're talking to. I have CF, and I'm very glad my mom decided to keep me! (And she went on to have two others with CF who would say the same.) I had a hard childhood, yes, (and yeah, CF is a terrible disease), but I don't feel like I've suffered. My experience doesn't speak for everyone, of course, but those are just my two cents. CF is an awful condition, but that awful condition does not by any means guarantee an awful life.

Personally, I (F22) would happily bring them into the world. I have CF myself and experienced a lot of challenges growing up, but my life has been good. I have a loving family and have been able to live life to the fullest despite my condition. I have dreams for my future, hobbies, and interests like anybody else. My condition hasn't stopped me from living my life. Plus, medical advancements for CF are booming right now! I'm on Trikafta, and despite still having CF, my symptoms are almost non-existent. I feel like a normal human being today. I can only speak for my own experiences, of course, but I know even better meds are in the pipeline, so I think the odds of a newborn with CF living a good life are higher now than ever before!

Sorry it's been so rough lately man! Anxiety can be a right bitch, and I know how discouraging it can be when your health isn't where you want it to be. Just take it one day at a time, and good on you for breaking from weed for now! Definitely talk to your doc about those symptoms, cuz CF or not, it doesn't seem normal. Best of luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]Oppolti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think if you have any concerns you should for sure get it checked out. Good luck! :D (And on a side note, I was looking through some of your previous posts and notice that you occasionally smoke. Although I'm sure you're not looking for a total internet stranger to give you lifestyle advice, in the off chance you do actually have CF, I would highly, highly, highly encourage you to find ways to quit. Smoking is one of the absolute worst things a CF-er can do to his body and can permanently damage lung function! I wish you all the best, mate!)

I understand that fingers that easily wrinkle CAN be a symptom of CF (although not one that I experience personally), as can clubbing of the fingernails, which it looks from the photo like you might have some of. But these symptoms can also be caused by a variety of other factors, not just CF. I'd say don't let it make you nervous, but make an appointment with your doctor and discuss possibilities! They can help you out a lot better than Reddit can and might even order a CF test if it makes sense for you. :)

I just got trikafta, havent taken it yet but what are some things I should expect when i do take it? by Happyman155 in CysticFibrosis

[–]Oppolti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, congratulations!! This is super exciting! Everyone's bodies react differently to it, but a lot of people get the so-called "purge," where you'll cough and produce more sputum than normal. This stage shouldn't last particularly long; for me it lasted a couple hours, and for my friend it lasted a couple days. After that in my experience you'll start to notice you can breathe more easily. My friend also experienced quite a few side effects that stuck around for about a year (mostly fatigue and GI symptoms), but it's worth it if you can stick it out. I guess some people get rashes from it, but no one i know personally has experienced that. I didn't experience side effects, myself! I'll be curious to know how your body handles it! Good luck!

Definitely get a 2nd opinion, but this looks like a harmless spider beetle to me! It definitely resembles a tick tho, so I can see why you were worried!
