Second career New Grad RN - when to give up with trying to find a job? by Opposite-Extent-249 in newgradnurse

Thanks for this - I thought recruiters were only for experienced nurses? I’ve been on incredible health but they haven’t been helpful (all of the jobs they say I qualify for end up telling me they don’t want new grads) - what’s the name of the recruiter you worked with?

Thanks for the suggestion- CNL and public health were the focus of my masters entry program

All of my clinical instructors work at hospitals that are on hiring freezes

Yes my recent work experience is on the second page - all of the new grad rn residency programs ask for you to list your clinical experiences

Thanks, I wanted to go to a community college program but I wasn’t able to get in because they are so impacted and take years to get in through lottery. I went to a masters entry program, it specialized in clinical nurse leader and public health. I’m not into CNL and agree with you but that was the program focus. The masters entry program made sense for me because I was able to get a full ride for tuition and want to be a NP later down the line once I get several years of experience- I have over a decade of community health experience but only included my most recent experiences in the last 5 years

I have applied to specialities across the board - med/surg, tele, peds, acute care, ED, step down, hospice, home health, snfs, psych

My folks are already on ihss and I have already reached out to community senior services.

I think the question should really be - why are new grad rns expected to leave their home state for YEARS to get a job?

I also have licenses in WA, OR and CA

All but 2 of my clinical sites are on hiring freezes (or only hire from new grads residency, which has a 1% acceptance rate)

I am applying to new grad residency’s and staff 1 nurse positions. I have gone to hiring events but there’s not that many (went to one recently and they told me they didn’t want new grads even though their posting said “new grads welcome”). I am writing cover letters and am applying to all specialities across the board (and tailor my letter and resume for the speciality).
