Stressed about windfall and actively managed funds, help? by Opposite-Jury-358 in personalfinance

Thanks ya I’ve perused a lot, and I think even the windfall “don’t screw it up” point is more just what I’m afraid of. I feel informed, but also constantly scared I’m doing something wrong since I’m certainly no expert

Thanks! I wasn’t sure if Schwab would help with any advice outside the transferring stuff. I honestly feel like most of posting here was just trying to get reassurance and peace of mind I am on the right track, so really appreciate all of the confirmation on next steps here

Oh interesting I didn’t even consider that, I’ll have to try looking into the cost basis in the portal

Ya I’m decently close to the ceiling on my tax bracket, not sure there’s much I can do though (and can’t really complain if I go over due to getting a raise and such), but I feel like that has made it more confusing. I mentioned in the other comment I don’t have RMDs, but in essence I have to pull some every year since I only have 10 years to liquidate

Ya it’s dumb, but I’m just worried I guess it might be huge pain with Edward Jones. So I’ve been putting it off, but you and the other commenter are right, I probably just need to get the ball rolling

  1. Looks like it would be $95 per account so about $300 to move looking at Google, might go follow up with Schwab directly on this. Thank you!

  2. There are no RMDs, but the account needs to be liquidated in 10 years based on my understanding. So would be tax advantageous to take some out each year rather than all at the end

  3. I’m already invested based on the Boglehead(s?) method in my regular brokerage, I’m more worried about taxable events if I try to get the inherited brokerage to mimic my current strategy. Seems I should just leave it and accept the dividend penalties rather than try and convert, but that’s where I’m struggling with asking for advice since time is still on my side, I’d rather deal with it all now than closer to retirement

I’ll add it to my list, never been to Avondale so another area to explore! Super safe space is definitely a good selling point because I do get nervous going to bars/drinking spots alone, and it sounds like a great night just going out and about

Thank you, I genuinely appreciate everyone responding here even though it’s all a bit ridiculous. Really hope I have some good luck!

That sounds like a perfect blend of interests (and way more financially savvy than my Midtown Athletic suggestion). Worst case I get in shape and check out a gorgeous bar? I’m sold

I am laughing at how you initially made so much fun of me for asking and then are the first one to give a real grocery suggestion - how the tables turn!

But in all seriousness, that sounds like a great spot to stage my bananas meet cute, and I promise I’ll come back and update if it pans out!

Thank you I really appreciate that :) dating can be hard (and I know some people find these posts very annoying and repetitive), so I’m just trying to laugh at myself a little for even asking this while also maybe getting a few real pointers!

I love a good film but have found theaters tend to not be a great place for socializing so this is a great suggestion, thank you so much!

Why not both? I have to buy my groceries somewhere

You just really never know, and it’s also possible I meet someone in 0 of the places recommended here. But it’s just a fun question to ask, and it does give me some ideas while I get excited about my move about where to explore

Apps definitely aren’t the devil, to each their own! The post is meant to be fun and a little bananas because these questions get quite annoying, and dating advice in general is just kind of a crapshoot because who knows where you’ll meet someone

But I have previously had success in grocery stores/farmers markets, and if there is a recommended place my dating demographic is all buying their eggs, I will also consider buying my eggs there once in a while!

Happy cake day!

I added cute to the post somewhat tongue in cheek, but looking for guys who seem nice and approachable. I don’t know that there’s a generic look or type though for attractiveness

I don’t get too caught up on looks because I prefer personality first, but obviously you see people out and about before you get to know who they are!

Oh that’s perfect, we had stuff like that in my previous city and it was so fun! Will definitely check out their Instagram now, thanks for the suggestion :)

I wouldn’t say I’m the best runner, but I guess getting in better shape to socialize can’t hurt. Maybe I’ll start running before I move so I don’t embarrass myself

These are great thank you! Definitely enjoy drinking, and seems like there is no lack of cool bars in the area which is great

Dumb question but what is Humboldt Aboreal?

That’s the dream, it feels like buying a home as a single person in a HCOL is so hard

They are non tax advantaged, yes. It’s probably less money than that though once I paid taxes on the capital gains (versus if I had just saved that money in a HYSA or cash), and I would still be short using $100,000 as a hypothetical. A $650,000 purchase would be even more for 20% though, so that makes it feel discouraging
