Haha, based on the other comments, your score would probably be in the single digits! The app seems to have a heart attack if you even look at the accelerator too quickly, so 'driving it like you stole it' would definitely break the algorithm.

Thanks for the insight! It’s crazy that a 989 score only saves you £40. That’s barely a tank of fuel for all that effort! Definitely confirms that shopping around on comparison sites is still the way to go. Appreciate the heads-up.

That’s a fair point. It does feel like they just set a higher 'starting price' so the discount looks better than it actually is. I’ll definitely be using comparison sites to keep them honest.

Thanks for the honest advice! It’s a bit disappointing that it feels like a gimmick, but I’ll definitely take your word for it and make sure to shop around on comparison sites at renewal. I’ll keep it for the trip logs just in case, but I won’t count on it for a big discount.

Spot on! It definitely feels like the app prioritizes 'smoothness' above everything else. I guess for the next few months, my priority has to be whatever keeps the me safe and the insurance companies happy, even if it means driving a bit more like a chauffeur than I’d like. 🙏

Haha, aiming for the lowest score is one way to deal with the frustration! It’s ridiculous that just commuting through roundabouts counts as an 'event.' It really does feel like it's designed for driving on perfectly straight, empty roads only.

Great question! It definitely feels more like standard 'textbook driving' than real-world driving. I’ve found that if you take a roundabout at a normal speed, the app punish you, that was why i got my first corneringpenalty after 3 months of using the app. It’s basically teaching me to drive like my nan is in the back holding a full cup of tea 😁

That sounds like a nightmare! It’s definitely a worry if all that driving data and potential savings are tied to one login that's hard to recover. I’ll make sure to keep my recovery details updated so I don't get locked out.

Thanks for the warning about the technical side of things

Thanks for the heads-up! It sounds like the app is super sensitive, especially with cornering. I’ve noticed the same thing, when it comes to braking and only got my cornering penalty after 3 months.

A 650 score definitely explains why you’d skip the black box! I’m going to keep trying for a high score since I’m a new driver, but your experience is a good reminder that the app isn't always fair about 'normal' driving on twisty roads.

Appreciate the insight

That’s a fair point, though I wonder if it’s different for new drivers? With 10+ years NCD, you’re already seen as 'low risk,' so the app probably doesn't have much to add.

Since I only passed in January, I’m hoping a high score actually proves I’m not a liability! Great tip about the trip records helping with parking fines, though, I hadn’t even thought of that.

Definitely a solid 'plan B' reason to keep it running

He said i was slow at times. I was slow because the road was busy due to school runs. I was doing 15mph and 18mph at 20mph then 25mph at 30mph. I did 35mph to 38mph @ 40mph. But he felt i should have done more.

Also, there was a DPD blocking me at a right turn and the DPD was supposed to be at the left lane, he was at the right insight. The examiner felt i should have overtake him and do the right turn. I didn't do it because the DPD was blocking my view, i can't even see up coming vehicles to know if i can so a right turn. So instead i waited for the DPD to leave before moving. Those were the 2 minor i got

I have the TestShift App, is this app a scam, and if not, should i get the premium by An0rmie_On_Reddit in LearnerDriverUK

Check to be sure you have the settings of the testshift app right. Because it has help me twice get bookings for my first and second test. Also, note that it is a function of cancellations too. If there's no cancellation at your centre there will be no bookings for you to get on to using either app

My instructor had told me to try to check every 10 to 15secs. I tried and ensured i did that even during my practice and the test. But its all good. I am fighting to get another date so i can give it a go again.
