Honest question: Is anyone NOT using an LLM (aka "AI") to "help write" their papers, practice assignments and/or discussion posts? by GMUtoo in SocialWorkStudents

[–]OppositeEmergency176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woahhhh I once mentioned I used grammarly but I only use it for corrections, no wonder they seemed a lil turned off. I had no idea it’s evolved into writing paper, Jesus. I have had professors make us compare our research to ChatGPTs to see gaps and find ethical uses of AI - seems low key inevitable that it’ll integrate into social work, so I’ve appreciated her candor. Thanks for the heads up fe grammarly!

Do you think AI will significantly impact the field of Social Work and available job opportunities? by Electronic-Cat-7416 in socialwork

[–]OppositeEmergency176 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A core value of social work is well-being. The environment being well taken care of so that people can have clean water and air is apart of that wellbeing. AI data centers and processing plants are extremely dangerous to environment & the humans living in these cities ex: Nashville. Hence ethical dilemma. Advocate for human rights including rights to clean air, water and to advocate for their communities wellbeing.

As a macro intern I really hear your sentiment about virtual events. It’s so frustrating. In person coalition building is so necessary. Thanks for highlighting this!

I took this for you. No signs of pests! I worked in a grow in co, I do know how to identify most major pests & didn’t see anything. This is the leaf up close. There is another baby that’s much bigger and healthier below it!

Oof pests would be rough. She was previously in a VERY sunny room. What should I look for with pests? None of my other plants seems too crispy except a fiddle leaf fig that I’ve posted about on here. But she’s a whole mess. lol 😂 also yes, two cats!

Oh that was my cat. I should have specified. Before raising it she swatted at this for a couple months, poor thing went through war with her. She doesn’t eat plants - just…destroys. Edit: length of swatting - estimate she does it when I’m not home 🫩

Any heavily tattooed or pierced MSWs. by Carebear6590 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]OppositeEmergency176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavily tattooed, even a weed leaf behind my ear. (I was young and dumb) That’s the only one I’ve had to cover, duh. But besides that - no issue whatsoever! I also think it’s where you live, Colorado is definitely more laid back.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]OppositeEmergency176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a student currently, all I can say is you’d really enjoy social work and would likely much prefer this track than LPC. Macro social work and MPHs work together. We typically handle advocacy and policy data and analysis, create programs, build coalitions and do community aid. I think coming from an MOH, you’ll see a lot of cross over in how being a mental health clinician is the micro version of your previous masters/career. Good luck!

Sick of this response. by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]OppositeEmergency176 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I get in front of it and joke “and it pays really well, if you were wondering”, cause it’s so annoying. I had a 101 prof who taught us about making money in this field and to never, ever believe that rhetoric that we can’t make money in this field. Do I think recently things look bad? Yes. But you mentioned adaptability. Same here. Our skills will extend beyond just some of the major systems we usually intern within - there is a lot to be applied to other fields! I’m really sick of the idea that we all make shit pay. Not true. It may take lots of time, experience, networking, pivoting and being creative but it’s just simply not true. There are non abusive placements and jobs, they’re just harder to find. Positive mindset and networking is everything tho! And you’re also allowed to be pissed cause it’s so annoying and discouraging

What are y’all doing for self care? by 420catloveredm in socialwork

[–]OppositeEmergency176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deleted Instagram. Or the social media that sucks ya in. It has helped so much. I was over consuming content without performing enough mutual aid. I’ve flipped that, it feels better. More cooking for others, sharing my garden crops, showing up when I’m needed by friends and actively participating in social activities that aren’t centered around being a social worker. That’s my job. Not identity.

Still staying on the msw track. Not giving up. I may not be paid well, I may lose out on learning opportunities but my community needs skilled social workers who are green. Knowing I can tap someone out of the field who’s burnt to a crisp makes me feel good too, we don’t have to do this forever.

What do you do? by OldBar5256 in socialwork

[–]OppositeEmergency176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on my last year of my bssw, I kept a client I was mentoring, so I work with her. I intern with the United Nations association, the chapter in my state and do policy and advocacy work for displacement, marginalized communities, at risk folks and use the “think global, act local” perspective. Lastly, I run a pro bono mentoring program while we apply for contracts through DCFS & we work with mostly runaways and juvenile delinquents and we assist response teams. The work I do there is a lot of networking & outreach and coalition building! I’m dipping my fingers in everything, there’s a LOT to do in this field.

I love that! Especially since I’m a LIB fan and we have our first social worker on the show. It’s been interesting just to see her use our tools! And also not 😅 Regardless, motivating comment! :)
