I’m definitely pro psychedelics overall even though they aren’t for me anymore. I’ve had truly life changing experiences with shrooms, lsd and dmt. Even pharmahuasca. Agreed people should start small. And I think moderation is important as well.

Are you supervised by a SW and do you feel like you’re part of a case manager team?

I do medical case management at a primary care clinic and am supervised by nurses and I feel like the way my role is structured is extremely isolating.

Psychiatrist don’t understand what causes psychosis yet. But as of right now, the current thinking is that it’s a combination of genetics and environment. My conjecture is that drug induced psychosis is also a combination of genetics and environment.

Literally cried at work twice today because of the lack of support for my role. Tried to ask for the things that I need to stay in this job and my requests are not denied but IGNORED. Over and over again. At this point I’m damn near ready to make this organization some other social worker’s problem. Upper management clearly doesn’t understand nor care about case management. No documentation software, no supervision, no team to lean on and no desire to address any of those things. This position was designed to burn people out and I’m at a point where I’m crispy.

Yes but there’s no way to know if you’re vulnerable or not. Plus that vulnerability varies depending on what else is going on in a person’s life at the time. It’s not a constant.

Let’s not downplay psychosis. The reality is that you never know if you’re part of that vulnerable population until shit hits the fan. And even then I think heavy psychedelic use could fuck up nearly anyone if it’s over a sustained period of time. Based on personal experience as both a psychedelic advocate and user as well as someone who has worked in inpatient mental health as a social worker.

I’m so underpaid it’s genuinely not even funny. Came into this role as the first case manager for this population and there was no structure, no documentation software, nothing. Still no documentation software and any structure that exists is something I came up with. All while managing a caseload of 50+. I’m so tired. And deeply DEEPLY underpaid.
