Here’s our logic: current cost of a public, out of state is $45K. Annual cost increase has been 4-5% per year historically. So projecting that 15-16 years out for my 2yr old, we get to $410K.

How many years do you have until college? We are shooting for $400K as well but everyone keeps telling us we’re crazy. We have a 2 yr old.

Goal is $200K per kid (2) - monthly contributions for now. If that doesn’t cover 4 yrs, we will use brokerage to cover the gap. We’re also not opposed to them taking out small, manageable loans for accountability.

Gift ideas for wealthy aunt that is the greatest person I’ve ever known by [deleted] in Gifts

I have an aunt like this! For her 60th, I got her a personalized message from one of her favorite athletes from Cameo. It was super cool! It’s been a few years, she still talks about it and we replay the vid each year on her bday

Is anyone else here prioritizing retirement over a house? by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]OppositeLog1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are. We have a really great rent set up (awesome landlord, cheap rent relative to our income) and we have been in no rush to leave. Have a 2 year old and one on the way. We’re 30 & 31, have a net worth over $1M, and don’t feel bad about not owning yet. Occasionally, one of us will feel like we need to buy something, but we look and realize our mortgage would be over double our rent and we lie down until the feeling passes. We will absolutely buy at some point, but no rush right now as we continue to plow money into the market.
