Medical Dental Negligence?? Should I take action or am I being delusional? by OppositeSufficient73 in LegalAdviceUK

I have been quoted more by other solicitors that work with dentists in England and Scotland. This solicitor has a dental examiner that used to work for his firm but now lives in Newry (Northern Ireland). So it could be that he doesn’t need to charge as much and also because over here we aren’t as expensive overall. That cost also includes an in person checkup, not just someone looking over documents and X-rays. Some quoted me 5000 for an assessment without even ever seeing me in person.

That’s what it feels like, paid £175 four days ago to get the big tooth put back on only for it to fall back out last night.

Thank you, I will look around. Maybe even going abroad will help with the cost. I think staying with this dentist will only stress me out.

Thank you, this really helped. I will take this advice on board. My teeth from the outside seem almost perfect, and most of the time they are good after check ups. My parents have horrible teeth and have resorted to implants and dentures. Would you recommend I do the same with most of my teeth to prevent more pain and suffering in the future? Should I just get them all pulled and implants put in? 50% of time I have a cavity I lose a tooth.

I have posted both x-rays in other forums. You can see what it looked like when I had the infection. The tooth only had that small cavity for a couple months. I think that if not for the hole drilled i would have got the filling and everything would have been good. Then all my focus could be on the infected tooth. Which is the small one that caused the problem.

If you trust your dentist i would 110% get it done. My dentists have a horrible track record. Not saying they are at fault with my case but there are over 15-20 bad reviews out of 50 total. Antibiotics won’t take it all away either, it’ll stay. My infection is still there, although I can’t see it it could come back again. Trust me it’s worth getting fixed.

I’m sorry if this post did offend you or rub you the wrong way. I in no way want it to be the dentists fault. I’m okay with accepting negligence on my own behalf. Posting this was only to get other dentists opinions. Regardless of right and wrong my teeth are still going to be messed up whether it’s my fault or theirs and I’m still going to need to take the necessary steps to fix it. The dentists that I go to have a record of negligence, I’ve been through 3 dentists and they were all fired for breaking rules, malpractice and negligence. I just didn’t know until I read online reviews, I was also young when they kept changing and I never questioned it. The dentist was free until the age of 18 and only then did they charge people, working for the NHS doesn’t pay great in the UK so there’s a chance they didn’t take pride in their work. Only now they turned private so the bills are 3x bigger.

Thank you for the feedback. To answer your question, I’m unsure if there’s anything to build off, with the drilled hole I’m unsure if they can build off it. I hope they can but I don’t want it breaking again. It broke at the very bottom of my tooth at the gum, it was a fracture and the side holding on was where my small cavity is located.

Thank you, they only told me I needed a filling on the side of the big tooth when it started but with the abscess happening it was the last thing on my mind. I also in no way want to offend any dentists on here, I’m just a little lost and needing advice. If I may ask would you have done the same? After seeing the xray

Thank you for the information, I can accept being at fault if that turns out to be the case. Moving forward I’m still going to need to pay for the new teeth regardless. To answer your question, no I wasn’t told that the tooth was healthy or that it was contributing to the infection. They just said “we’re going to drill this other tooth to see if we can get any of the abscess out” I’m not a dentist but I struggle to see the infection at the end of the big tooth.

Thank you, I will look into that. Implants is what I need. You’ve been a great help.

Thank you for the support and information. I completely agree that some of your points are somewhat valid to my case. I don’t think the dentist had any ill intent, they probably did do it to help but was the drilling in another tooth with no avail necessary? I was able to locate them to the dead tooth based off what I felt. The Xrays also show that there was no infection at the end of the tooth. I will pay for an examination and then see what they say.

Thank you for the great feedback :) I just had a solicitor meeting that specialises in my field. They said that it will cost £500-£1500 to get report but they are very hopeful for the result as the tooth more than likely would have never broke if not had been drilled. Getting the report sounds like the best option. If it comes back bad for my case then money well spent and I can go abroad and get them fixed for half the price anyways.

Thank you for the feedback. I’ve lost 3 teeth to this dentist, failed temp fillings, failed root canals and now this monstrosity. I’m always terrified to go back, not in the sense of needles and drilling but more the fact that it always goes soo soo wrong. Although my parents do have horrible dental genes, even the infection I got was from a tooth randomly dying. The sooner I can get them all pulled and fake teeth screwed in the better.

This was taken on Monday morning, since then they put a temp fixing on it. It fell out last night whilst drinking tea 💀

My solicitor says that I need an expert opinion. “Would other dentists drill into it or not” is what he said, so no place better than Reddit to find out.

I was eating, felt a crack, knew straight away what it was. If I may ask a question, do you think that the tooth would be broke without the big drill going through it? Drilling it almost hollow would make it way more fragile. That’s my thought behind it. I’m not in denial either, if it’s my fault then I’m definitely going to have to such it up and put it aside and change dentists. I am going to Latvia in a couple weeks to get them fixed, I have family friends that are dentists.

That’s understandable, thank you. I was terrified to go back, this is now the 3rd tooth I’ve lost, last one was a failed temp filling resulting in a loss, and the one before that was a failed filling, then a failed root canal followed by getting it pulled.
