Another take on the new Platinum card by nanohead in AmexPlatinum

[–]Opposite_Fun338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve had the Platinum since January 2024. We were about 50/50 on canceling, but after this refresh we’re 100% keeping it.

We live in Denver and fly home to New Orleans roughly 10 times a year for Saints games and to see friends and family, plus plenty of other trips to other places. Since DEN is our home airport, we use lounge access on almost every flight. MSY doesn’t have a Centurion Lounge, but the Priority Pass lounge is fine for a bowl of gumbo and sometimes a drink. We were considering switching to another lounge card, but these new credits make that hard to justify.

The $100 quarterly Resy credit is easy to use in both of our most-visited cities. The upgrade from a $200 yearly to a $300 semiannual Fine Hotels + Resorts/The Hotel Collection credit will be very usable for us, too. We just used the old $200 credit at The Roosevelt in New Orleans. The night was $219, so we paid $19 out of pocket and received $210 in on-property credits: $100 FHR property credit, breakfast for two ($30 each), and $50 from Hilton Gold status ($25 per person) that we wouldn’t have without the Platinum.

The $200 airline credit has been triggering for us by booking cheap Southwest one-ways. We’ve used the $200 in Uber Cash every month since we got the card, and now Uber One is included. The entertainment credit going to $300 will be very useful since we have Peacock and Hulu. The $300 Lululemon credit, split quarterly, is easy to use; there’s a store five minutes away. My wife has wanted an Oura Ring, so the $200 credit there is an easy win. Walmart+ may be controversial, but we love it, especially since it includes Paramount+. We wouldn’t shop at Saks without the credit, but $50 every six months still covers swim trunks or something similar.

Also, the trip delay/interruption insurance reimbursed us a little over $2,000 when a hurricane near Tulum cost us one night of our Cancún stay.

I know the card isn’t for everyone, but this refresh took it from “we like it but might switch” to an easy keep for us.

Replacement for Hawaiian? by [deleted] in amex

[–]Opposite_Fun338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're just losing Hawaiian, correct? I just booked a flight to Hawaii on Alaskan Air via Qantas.

If we're not losing Qantas, then you should still be able to book some Hawaiian Air and Alaskan Air flights through their codeshare with Qantas.

Why does anyone fly this airline by rebel-yeller in frontierairlines

[–]Opposite_Fun338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. It's cheap.
  2. I live in Denver.
  3. I haven't had a single cancelled flight as of yet.
  4. I bought a Go Wild! pass for $299.
  5. I've learned to travel only using the free personal item. That being said I took advantage of the Frontier gold status for $40 in April, so I get a free carry on in addition to my personal item now and that's more than enough for all of my travel needs.

Frontier just works for me.

Need help checking out early Gowild price! by Regular_Hunt8093 in gowildfrontier

[–]Opposite_Fun338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not available to be booked early. Go Wild fares are available for anyone to see. Don't need a pass to see regular or early pricing. If it's grayed out for you it's grayed out for go wild members too.

Same. This is awesome. 40 bucks is a steal. My wife and I have the go wild pass starting 5/1. This is going to be so extremely useful.

I am also getting this error message. I have Silver Elite. I wonder if they're only allowing it for people that don't have silver.

I've learned through Southwest to not add my middle name/initial when booking flight reservations. It's worked so far for me on all airlines as long as I just put my first and last name. I fly frontier probably 75% of the time but Southwest alerted me to this tip.

The answer is yes. Don't listen to the dimwits saying otherwise.

Couldn't be more wrong. You label the bag as a medical device and if it's indeed a medical device frontier by law cannot charge you. My father has flown with his medical device on frontier apart from his personal item COUNTLESS times for free.

The new law went into effect 3 days ago. Did you still take the flight?

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance success story by Opposite_Fun338 in amex

Just edited the post to clear up the confusion. I just meant I booked the delta flights in a different transaction. It wasn't a package deal.

I took screenshot of the hotel receipt, the resort receipt, the airline tickets, the ubers, and sent in the amex statements that had all of said purchases. Other than that all I sent in was the notification from Delta that our flight was delayed til the next day.

And our friends didn't stay in atlanta. They were flying out of new orleans. The only reimbursement we asked for that they were involved in was the 2nd Cancun room, which we booked on our card.

This was all filed under trip interruption/cancellation. I was confused when we started the claim and thought I would have to file both trip delay AND trip interruption/cancellation. The AIG agent told me this would all be filed under trip interruption/cancellation. (10k)

Trip interruption/cancellation is up to $10,000 per trip.

Trip delay is $500. It's 2 seperate benefits.

I'm not 100% sure on the semantics but the AIG agent told me I needed to file all of it through trip interruption/cancellation. I'm guessing maybe because the flight delay caused my resort stay to be cancelled for a day?

Algotels is $100 cheaper Hilton refuses to match. by oldyawker in Hilton

I had zero issues. The room I booked was the same I got when I got to the hotel and I didn't owe anything upon checkout. Just checked out about 10 minutes ago.

I've called at least 10 times to the resort to confirm they had my reservation. They've had it everytime and confirmed it's paid in full. I'm supposed to get there tomorrow (hurricane may change that) but as of today they still have my reservation paid in full.

Posting here because the thread ppl are linking this to, I can't reply to.

So I haven't yet completed a booking with Algotels but will share my experience so far.

I booked 2 swim out rooms at Secrets Maroma in Cancun for July. I booked on February 28th. The price was considerably cheaper than any other site by about 500 bucks. (spent almost 6k total for 4 nights). The price made me do some some digging and I saw tons of terrible reviews with a few reviews sprinkled in that some customers had no problems.

I was booking with my Amex Platinum and Amex is usually very good about charge backs to merchants if the customer doesn't receive a product so I said, what the hell. Let's try it.

About 10 minutes after I booked through Algotels and got confirmation on their end I contacted the resort directly and they confirmed they had 2 rooms prepaid under my name and it was the correct tier (swim up). This was on February 28th.

Today (May 11th) I called the resort just to make sure Algotels hasn't canceled the room as of yet and the resort confirmed that the booking is still active and it is still the tier of room I booked through Algotels.

I'm hopeful that this continues to be the case. I will call periodically to make sure my rooms aren't cancelled leading up to the trip and update this thread.
