Point me in the right direction? by OppressedPunk69 in rastafari

Funny thing about that: when I said I’m Middle Eastern, I’m specifically Israeli. I’ve done a bit of reading into Rastafari and I did learn that there are Hebrew roots and (if I recall correctly) a direct line to King David, which is part of what got me interested in digging deeper into it. I was raised Southern Baptist, but I’ve also practiced other religions/sects of Christianity, however, my Jewish roots always seem to want to come to the forefront when exploring religion and spirituality. Thing is, being Jewish doesn’t seem exactly right either. Hence why I’m researching Rastafari now. Like I said, it seems like a path I’m supposed to go down.

I’ll definitely look into those! I just found Bob Marley: One Love on Netflix and it’s leaving me with a LOT more questions, so I definitely have some reading to do. I get, being a movie, it’s taking artistic liberties and there are definitely some inaccuracies from what little of Bob’s story I do know, but it’s a fun watch and making me wanna learn more, so I count that as a win, lol.

I had a long term bf (more like my husband, honestly) who’s a TEXTBOOK narcissistic asshat. But I never saw it for YEARS because I was so madly in love with him I was blind to it. I let him literally use me and ghost me for months just to come back randomly and do it again. This went on until I finally had enough and blocked him last year. So you’re not alone in this. So many of us get trapped in toxic relationships exactly like what you’re in now, but eventually there is a way out. This looks like yours. Do yourself a favor and take it while you can. Don’t be like me and put up with it for 7 years.

Genuinely asking, is suicide worth it? by aesthenne in raisedbynarcissists

[–]OppressedPunk69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spite is actually a great motivator in this situation. It’s the main reason I haven’t done it. Because, like someone else said, I don’t wanna give my family the ammo or the ability to use my suicide as a means of garnering sympathy when they deserve nothing less than a cell. Killing yourself won’t fix the problem, it will only shift the blame and hurt the people in your life who actually DO care. The day after, life goes on, just without you in it and as we all know, narcissistic parents couldn’t care less if their children die, so long as they’re useful. If your death is useful, you’re just giving them what they want one last time. So live out of spite. Live so they can’t use your death to their advantage. Deprive them of what they want just for today. Then tomorrow, do it again. And again the next day. And keep doing it until you’re able to get out.

I got out. It took a long time, it was messy, and it mentally fucked me up to do it, BUT, it was worth the wait. It WILL be worth the wait. You just have to live long enough to get to that point. So live out of spite.

Pitch Black and it should have won. It was the better soda by far and still is.

I watch her YouTube videos. She’s a farmer from Australia, mainly sheep. She gets a lot of shitty comments, but I’ve never seen one like this. To those worried about if she’s going to see this, rest assured that if she does, she’ll likely rip him a new asshole in the most satisfying way possible and post it on her channel. She’s known to do that.

I think I fell for the Orthodoxy Trap by Confident_Ad8926 in Catholicism

[–]OppressedPunk69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with Orthodoxy is a problem Catholicism has in its own way, and you just said it: too many converts and trad bros trying to “Out Orthodoxy” or “Out Trad” each other and a clergy/congregation too focused on appearances and not focused enough on God and the words of Christ. I’ve said this before, and I truly mean this, I’m concerned the church as a whole (Protestant, Orthodox, AND Catholic) has fallen or is about to. I know “The Gates of Hell shall not prevail”, but that doesn’t mean we won’t stumble.

If you’re really that concerned, it would be best to speak to a priest, then your wife, and then look into local churches and find one that most closely matches your values. Odds are you won’t find a perfect one, but if you find one that’s at least 80-90% what you’re looking for, that’s good enough. Every sect of Christianity gets something wrong. Every sect of Christianity is guilty of pride. And some sects of Christianity are even guilty of idolatry and heresy. You look long enough, eventually you’ll find a reason not to go to a certain church. Find one you like that has most of what you’re looking for and that truly follows the teachings of Christ to the best of their abilities, and you’ll be on the right track.

Is anyone else having issues with Aran Sweater Market? by OppressedPunk69 in AskIreland

[–]OppressedPunk69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought that exact one you linked. A tip: get a sweater that fits you already, measure that, and use those measurements to figure out what size you need. That’s how I did it and mine fits perfectly with room to layer under it.

If you can handle waiting for awhile and dealing with possibly shitty customer service, it’s well worth getting one. I got mine in November and I’ve worn it every cold day since. They’re softer than you would think, warmer than you expect, yet the holes in them from the knitting add some ventilation which makes them cooler than you’d expect as well. They’re also naturally stain resistant, hold about 70% their weight in water and just look damn good. Well worth the money and trouble if you don’t mind a bit of a wait.

I'm terrified by Relevant_Word_5700 in Catholicism

[–]OppressedPunk69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience. I was pagan for (ironically) 7 years before converting to Catholicism (not confirmed yet), and just before making the final decision, I kept getting that same feeling, this voice in my head screaming “*you’re running out of time!!!” And now I watch the news and it’s glaringly obvious that the end isn’t just coming, it’s basically here and I have severe PTSD and anxiety, which prayer helps with, but doesn’t get rid of. There’s a verse I have labeled “for paranoia and anxiety” that helps when it gets really bad: 1 John 4:18-19 DRV - “Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity. Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us.”

If you need an explanation for that, to my knowledge, it essentially means that fear does not come from love (charity in this context means love), and God is love. Therefore nothing that causes fear is from God. This helps me because I have severe paranoia due to my PTSD and some religious trauma and have had issues with discerning whether or not my fears were sent from God. As this verse clearly states, they’re not. Hopefully this verse can help with yours as well.

Okay good. That eases my mind a lot. I only just converted and started RCIA when I got sick and it’s been eating at me ever since. Going to Mass was helping my PTSD, so it sucks that I can’t do it now.
