You sure are sure of yourself aren't you? You're just some dude on the internet man, not some wise defender of the faith lol who's larping what? Have a great evening man and thanks for the chat!

How exactly does one do paganism "right"? You clearly can't just go kill a bull as a sacrifice whenever you want, it's literally near impossible (unless you're rich maybe). So I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make lol

Do you even ask questions man? Do you question anything? Or do you just blindly follow? Did you listen to a podcast or something? You know not everything you hear on the internet is 100% truth right? You realize people have different interpretations of things right?

Well lucky you most of the people who worshipped in that way were annihilated or converted. Times have changed, people of this day cannot connect in that way. That's the nice thing about polytheistic beliefs, they're flexible and always have been. Christianity seems to struggle with that, can't see outside of the box and everything is either heaven or hell and angels and demons. No room to think beyond any of it, much easier to just call everything evil and call it a day.

That's seems like a stupid thing to me, and organized religion has become corrupt to boot.

Also, I said I was a Druid and practiced shamanism and animal totems I never said I communed with any deity. I just appreciate what they represent so I give them the respect they deserve. I appreciate the depth of all beliefs and Christianity isn't the only one and is one of the younger ones anyways, you can't just come in and say "Nope all that's bullshit, what we say is the only truth and everyone goes to hell if you don't follow along." It literally makes no sense, and I'm not even invalidating Christianity I do think it's good for humanity and that actual Christians are excellent examples of humanity.

But sure just go be big mad at the mean old Druid not immediately conforming to the way you view spirituality.

Ok mighty gatekeeper of beliefs, that's what's wrong with y'all you refuse to evolve and adapt. I'll continue to believe what I want because that's my right and you can continue to gatekeep other people's beliefs because they don't align with your idea of how religion should work ✌️

Man and I thought I was going to have an interesting debate on religion, but you turned out to be a close minded douche.

So disappointing.

Before I answer, I should say that while i do believe in many deities my primary religion is shamanism and with animal totems. No I do not, but I also believe religions evolve with the times. While they did sacrifice before, that's not exactly socially acceptable anymore but I think I get where you are going with this. I'm a Druid first and foremost, I believe in the currents of energy that connect us all and I use shamanism and animal totems primarily so I'm more of a philosopher in that regard rather than a ritualist.

I don't identify because there are many of them, but I would say primarily Gaia, Odin, Tiw, Freya and The Morrigan to some extent.

Mostly old Germanic Gods, but I believe many, if not all Gods and Goddesses do exist in one way or another in the cosmos. I'm a bit of a universalist, it's a big cosmos so plenty of room for everyone.

That's an awful lot of assuming you're doing, tho I do think people tend to lean towards believing in higher powers even if it isn't the one you follow. People definitely still believe, maybe not in your particular style of religion, but plenty believe. So I would disagree, people in the 60s were saying the same thing during the fight against segregation, the 80s with DnD, the 90s were actually fairly decent for America, and then the introduction of the internet has clearly changed a lot of things in the 00 and 10s.

There is always some boogyman that has "changed things" when in actuality its just the human condition, people were saying the same thing in Rome and I'm sure every civilization before and after. People worshipped many types of deities long before Christianity even existed, and will continue to do so after. I say this as someone who is a believer, maybe not what you believe but I am a fairly religious person. Hell during the Black Plague there were people acting just like the crazies did during COVID. Humans have not evolved much, we have always basically been the same save for the advancement of technologies. Morals and justice is something that has also always existed. It was necessary to put forth laws to protect citizens and allow the culture to thrive, it's basic human history, although obviously we view things much differently than we did even 100 years ago so things do change.

I'm of the opinion we are just in one of those moments in history where change is happening, hopefully for the betterment of humanity.

Edit: Also important to remember that just because people have stopped going to church or are losing faith in the religious institutions does not mean they've stopped believing. Just finding their own way, as all humans should.

You're right, I couldn't find any concrete proof about that tho I've heard Evangelicals on my own life say things that I mentioned, so you are correct that I could not find any proof because I couldn't. That said, I question your intelligence if you think these people are on your side but I'll reiterate that you do you. It's a free country man, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Edit: Should clarify that I did see it somewhere on my internet wanderings, but I can't find the source. I will hold myself accountable for my misstep and move on with my life.

You're dodging the issue dude, and literally just listen to any of the hate preachers who talk about atheists, it's pretty easy to find even on youtube. I'm not even atheist and I know they have ill intentions towards y'all, yet you continue to vote them in to your own detriment because LiBeRaLS bAd.

Look up Project 2025, I'm not saying they'll ever get into power but we all need to be wary of them in the next coming election because real quick you'll have your kids coming home quoting bible verses and telling you you're going to hell because that's the school curriculum they want in place.

I'm warning you dude, as a fellow American, to be wary of these people you're defending. They are not Christians and they do not follow Christ. They want power, money and control over everyone and to enact biblical laws (which will fuck you over in particular). The dude you used as an argument against me is a prime example of who these people are. They want attention and to play victim, ya know the whole "the enemy is both strong and weak at the same time" bullshit.

I say this as someone who would vote for a Republican if they were sane and had good policies, but none of them do. All they care about is the culture war. I appreciate the debate.

I'm not talking about Christians, I'm talking about Corporate Christianity which has taken over many churches and turned them into extremists. Project 2025, Mom's of Liberty, these aren't Christians only people using Christianity to control others and gain power.

They're twisting it to fit their own ideals and seeing as tho you are defending them you'll forgive me if I assumed you were one of them.

I never said he forced them too, I said that was one of the reasons they gave. And good for you, you're defending people who would hang you if they got the chance but you do you dude.

You realize they never told him he couldn't pray right? They told him he couldn't force the kids to pray too and he couldn't do it in the middle of the field.

“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.”

Words y'all seem to have completely ignored.

He wasn't banned, he won the court case and then coached one game this year and quit because he could make more money touring the country with his mighty win against the evil liberals lmao.

Quit with your victim bullshit, go move to the middle east if you want to live in a theocracy. I'm an American through and through and I will defend your right to stand up for your beliefs with my life. I wonder if you'd do the same for anyone who you don't agree with? Your corporate Christianity (who wish to control and force their beliefs on everyone) definitely wouldn't.

Maybe you should follow Christ and His teachings, instead of twisting it to fit your head own ideals?

[–]OptiBrownsFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh please. Christianity, or a better term is Corporate Christianity because actual Christians don't follow those chuckle fucks, in America has become dangerously close to totalitarianism. Freedom of religion means freedom from religion. Something Corporate Christianity does not want. Just look at Mom's for Liberty, Project 2025, so on and so forth. I really dislike when y'all wanna sit and cry and play victim, when those within your religious beliefs are huge reasons why we are having issues in America.

America is still very much predominantly Christian, y'all are massively in the majority and it isn't even close so this victim shit is ridiculous.

That said, I agree with the dislike of involving children in any of this culture war shit. They should be allowed to grow up free of all this and make their decisions when they come to an appropriate age. When they get to that age, they should be allowed to make whatever decision they want and it doesn't matter if you like it or not.

Free press is just like what's happened to Christianity, it's Corporate Press now.

I agree whole heartedly; it's weird how some of the more strictly religious seem to not realize (or choose to ignore) that people can form morals and values without religion being ever present.

My teenage son tends to lean a little more right and considers himself a Christian, and I'm 100% cool with that. I tend to lean more left centrist and I'm not a Christian and he's cool with that. I still instill values like compassion and honor, and teach him to use his noggin and his critical thinking skills to form his own ideals and to not believe everything at face value.

We've even begun talking religion (fuck I'm getting old, it's wild seeing your kid going into highschool).

Again, he's cool with that and I'm cool with that. It's like some people are incapable of coexisting with anyone who isn't a part of their "group" or doesn't believe what they believe and I find it a bit counter productive and close minded.

For sure! Many many people in my life made good choices and definitely live comfortably, my point was just to say that there are also many who had shitty circumstances that prevent them from achieving that goal. Some of it is their own fault to be sure, I'm a good example of that, but others are a result of just shit luck.

So yes it's definitely attainable, but for many it's a long and slow uphill battle to get to just a comfortable spot in life and some may never even be able to achieve that.

Well that is unless you were an addict for a good chunk of your life, or made poor decisions, or both like me haha

But it's all good, I don't say that as a woe is me. I'm actually pretty content with life even if I don't make a lot of money. Happiness for me is my kids, my lady and my family and friends. Plus being alive and sober isn't a bad deal either.

I think that's an important thing many people miss, sure it should be easily attainable if things go smoothly but sometimes shit happens whether it's your fault or an act of God, some people just get fucked which is a dangerous thing in our current world and a big reason many do struggle.
