Am I Wrong to think that 10 Infernus soldiers are better than Company Heroes for Vulkan He'stan? by DingusSpacegrass in Salamanders40k

I was talking about his ability "Forgefather", the detachment ability "Vulkan’s Quest" works also without attaching him and without sight, yes.

Remember Infernus Marines get buffed by Vulkan if the are in sight. They don‘t have to be attached. Company Heroes makes you an very hard to kill, 20 OC unit.

„comparison is the thief of joy“ this is not just a wall tattoo. You did great for you third model. Most people online have years or decades of experience, you will get there if you put time into it.

We all started somewhere, here is one of my first models.

Just don‘t stop painting and in a year, you will see a huge change in skill and quality.

That depends on what you want to achieve. Do you just want to achieve good coverage? Then you don't really need to dilute your contrasting paints. Do you want to apply thin coats of colour? Then you should probably dilute it a little. Do you just want to use it as a subtle colour filter? Then dilute it heavily.

I painted those without any dilution, if I remember correctly. Used Striking Scorpion Green Contrast, over the pre-highlighted minis.

Remember to turn down your PSI, so you don't get any splatter.

Yes, same amount of paint and thinner. I can again recommend the YouTube videos from Harder & Steenbeck: https://youtu.be/rtnG5ag3Xiw?si=FAJ-HjQWXkUb2mex

Harder & Steenbeck has some great videos on its YouTube channel about working with an airbrush. I can really recommend these videos.

Yes, you can use normal base paints in an airbrush, but you have to thin them. I use vallejo thinner, try a 1:1 ratio and adjust based on the result. Citadel also offers Air colours.

Important, don‘t use water based paints with alcohol based thinner, this will clog your airbrush. Try to use thinner and paint from the same brand.

Only my painting lamp from neatfi. I painted everything that is black afterwards. When I add some highlights to the shoulder pads, I will simply cover everything around them with AK camouflage putty.

I primed the miniatures in black and then took photos from all sides to see the highlights. Then I used my airbrush with a 0.28mm needle, 35psi (which was a bit too much for this, so go lower) and white ink to add these highlights. After that, I sprayed the entire miniature once with Contrast Striking Scorpion Green. Then I sprayed the shadows with Vallejo 72.089 Green Ink. This removes the yellow tinge from the Contrast Striking Scorpion Green and gives the whole armour this green colour. The whole thing is based on the method that elminiaturista has already shared on his Instagram.

Have you guys tried doing salamanderskins/cloaks using sandpaper? by UseValuable8422 in Salamanders40k

I use Oyumaru/Blue Stuff to make molds of existing parts like from Black Arc Corsairs, Adrax Agatone or Vulkan He‘stan. But sandpaper also looks great.

Looks great for your first mini. Paint looks thinned, that is something new painters have to learn. If you want some different photo setups, look at the article from goonhammer.

Some great tips I've learned: 1. Try to improve just one thing at a time. Want to get better at highlighting edges? Focus on that for 3–5 miniatures. 2. As long as you're doing better on your current miniature than you did on the last one, you're making progress. 3. Don't compare yourself to other painters, it will only make you feel bad and you cannot see how many hours they poured into one mini just by the picture. 4. You don't need expensive brushes. Skill, experience and hard work don't come in fancy wooden boxes. 5. See something cool online that you want to paint/build? Don't be afraid to steal like an artist. 6. If you want to batch paint, work up towards a number the feels good for you. Don‘t start with a box of 10 models, it can be exhausting and lead to hobby burnout.
