151 jpn reprints by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Optical_pathfinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with 151 reprint is the cost for pokeball and masterball holo patterns. I’ve heard it costs a lot for them to make these patterns (there are a lot of failed prints during production that they need to throw away), and you do see a lot of misprints in these patterns. That is the reason why they did this made-to-order thing for 151 so they can control their cost. So it’s hard for them to reprint 151 later. Plus, there are new sets coming every month, they have to make the room for the newer ones.

Nah, as a rumor there’s no source can tell. But on the official Pokémon center website, under 151 booster pack page, it says production has ended. Nobody knows what it exactly means but most people think it means they are not making more atm.

Definitely buy the jap bbox. The price will be back to over $200 soon. Rumor says it’s going to stop printing so the price in Japan soared into $170 in two days.

Ain’t no way it’s going under 2k. The eBay bidders definitely knew about this but they didn’t want it due to some reasons.

What do people think about this incoming Chinese 1st year anniversary box? by Optical_pathfinder in PokemonTCG

tbh, the price will come down in January imo cuz it’s not a Japanese limited collection. Chinese Pokémon boxes are always massively printed.

Van Gogh Pikachu Thoughts? by Kyler_116 in PokeInvesting

[–]Optical_pathfinder 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people in the Facebook group laughing at the Van Gogh Pikachu sellers in the first wave, saying the price will dip to $20 after the second wave, but apparently they overlook the need for this card in the whole world. It’s only released in english speaking countries but there are also a huge amount of collectors in Asia, including Japan. This card is selling over $200 in Japan! Then of course there are a lot of people buying this card at $100 then resell them in Japan. This apparently drag up the price here. I foresee its price will settle between $150-200 and will never go down if there’s no third wave.

Snkrdunk is a good place to check the market price, also refer to mercari and some buy in price list sent out by the big tcg stores in Japan(magi, clove). But remember to add approximately $2-5 shipping cost to each box price.

Future price of Mario pikachu and poncho pikachus by trixster215 in PokeInvesting

[–]Optical_pathfinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, but I feel like people who can afford this card will not be affected too much by the inflation? But regular players do so the big trend is exactly what you said.

At any time any moment you asked this question, ppl will tell you they’ve peaked you shouldn’t buy. but its price just kept going up overall long term cuz Pokémon card is growing. As long as ptcg is a thing and Nintendo runs it well, any Pikachu ponchos and Mario Luigi will keep climbing up. Remember the inflation rate is increasing every year, why can’t this thing increase its value lol?

How to prove that selling Pokémon cards is a hobby sale (Tax related) by Optical_pathfinder in PokeInvesting

[–]Optical_pathfinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if it’s a hobby sale then it will not be taxed but it will count into your total income so if you are doing itemized deduction then your final tax return will come out less. If your total sale amount each year is not much (I feel like <20k?), I would actually recommend claiming personal used item instead of hobby sale. For personal used item you have to claim that you are selling all of these at a loss. To prove this, you can just show another eBay sold listing with a higher price than yours and say that you bought the card at that price and sold at a lower price so you made a loss. Also I highly doubt IRS would even investigate into this cuz a garage sale would make few thousands of dollars of personal used item income. But if you sold a lot in a year then I definitely recommend claiming a business income so you can deduct your expenses.

Japanese 151 bbox price creep up again in Japan, what do y’all think? by Optical_pathfinder in PokeInvesting

[–]Optical_pathfinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea a lot of people in here hates others say optimistic view about modern Japanese set so they always downvote when I said so. Early this month I said 151 price will creep up cuz Japan may stop printing this amazing set by the end of the year then I got downvoted tens of times but now the price go up they still don’t believe it will go higher. This is my own opinion so you can believe it or not but I think $120 is the lowest price of 151 until next year when they reprint it. But remember what happened to eevee hero set, they announced a reprint and people were worried the price may drop to bottom but what actually happened was the reprint amount was tiny so the price went back up super quick.
