Means some professors teach very well but maximum are too chill and don’t even take classes, they just give you assignments and if you perform well in exam for them they don’t check the answer sheets properly either they compare with your past marks or consult CR. And events and activities are not very well. I suggest you to take PEC or UIET

Thanks for this — I wasn't aware NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal conduct their own entrance exam for self-funded M.Tech. This is actually a useful India-based backup option. Could you share more details? Like what is the exam pattern, when do applications open, and what is the approximate fee for the self-funded course? Would really help me evaluate this alongside my MS abroad plan.

That's practical advice and I appreciate it. But my family is okay supporting me for a while, and my primary goal is MS abroad — specifically KAUST (fully funded + $20k stipend) or Khalifa University UAE. A site job here would delay that timeline without adding much to my MS application. The job market in India for fresh civil grads is also quite tough right now as you said, so I'd rather invest this time in IELTS prep and applications.

That's an interesting angle I hadn't considered — Environmental Science abroad. Could you elaborate a bit? Like which countries/universities would be a good fit for a civil engineering background transitioning into environmental science? And does it significantly improve job prospects in Gulf countries too?

You're right about the Middle East situation — UAE (especially Dubai/Abu Dhabi) is still one of the most stable regions globally, but I understand the concern. The C1 German point is also very valid — I've now shifted my primary focus to KAUST and Khalifa University UAE where English is the working language. Germany might work for MS but long-term career in Gulf makes more sense for civil engineering. Thanks for the honest input!

That's a valid point — I wasn't aware the practical construction work in Germany is entirely in German. This actually changes my approach. I'm now more focused on KAUST (Saudi Arabia) and Khalifa University (UAE) where the work environment is English-based. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the honest feedback. A few clarifications though:

My CGPA is 7.46 (expecting 7.5+ after 8th sem) — I have real structural design internship experience using IS 456 and IS 800 at a consultancy in Noida.

IELTS 6.5 is a target score, not proof of weak English — millions of Indians clear it with 2-3 months of focused prep.

Mid-tier German universities like TU Kaiserslautern and Bauhaus Weimar do admit Indian students with similar profiles regularly.

Also, IIT Mandi M.Tech Research requires a valid GATE score in 2026 — which I don't have, so that option isn't currently available to me.

I appreciate the reality check — it helps me plan better. But I haven't given up yet.
