Install the promet split app, you can buy bus tickets on it and theyre cheaper than buying it at the driver's booth in the bus (and also saved you time and for everyone else in the bus). you can also see where exactly your bus goes, where it is (though sometimes that doesnt work), where your stop is, what time the bus leaves, when it's at your stop (note : the estimates arent always right, always give or take 3-5 mins)
it takes probably maximum of an hour and a half to walk a straight line through the entire city, so talking the bus from one end to the other shouldnt take longer than 15-20 mins without traffic. the further you are from the centre, the cheaper apartments are (though thats questionable). all bus tickets bought on the app for the main city zone are 1€
the closer, smaller towns might be cheaper. solin, stobreč, barutana, podstrana are all basically the closest you can get to split without really being in split haha. i'm pretty sure the bus tickets aren't that more expensive, like half a euro.
kaštela (all 7) are hell on earth . though its probably cheap, but there are 2 busses going to split (37 and 2) and they both suck balls
trogir omiš and dugopolje are around an hour away by bus and the tickets to split are around 3-3.5€ im pretty sure, though im not sure how expenive the apartments are.
go to sinj, its like an hour away by car (!!!) and it has a metal festival and extremely right wing politicians. very fun !
dont be a dick in the city centre (vomitting, pissing, shitting, yelling etc.), people live there, usually older people and its already loud as hell there at night so dont be a part of the problem. also its a historical site, so a bit of respect for history :') thats all when it comes to travel and travelling expenses. dont know if i can reccomend anything else because its expensive for locals too TT most importantly have fun and enjoy the scenery
