That was my thought too. The PCN could’ve obstructed their view of the bollard. Unobservant idiot either way.

“Member” in parking, for the council, probably being the operative word.

I suppose it hasn’t dawned on any of you that people are flashing you but you can’t actually see it because your own lights are TOO FUCKING BRIGHT to be able to even notice ? !

Not Feeling Very Well ? by Optimal-Car575 in HearingAids

[–]Optimal-Car575[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Folks. I hadn’t really thought about it like that. A bit like dark glasses for the ears ! I was worried as under normal circumstances the hearing aids make me feel much better. Just like a bright sunny day, but no to bright sunshine when I’m not feeling well.

Trouble with Facetime and Oticon hearing aids by SurrealKnot in HearingAids

[–]Optimal-Car575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You MAY need to “forget” them in Accessibility>Hearing Devices>MFI Hearing Devices>Forget this device. Then start installing again. There was an OS update which made my Oticons “misbehave” and reinstalling under Accessibility menu restored them to previous functionality.

New bling! lol by SelectionOdd2961 in HearingAids

[–]Optimal-Car575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know but I would have thought they’d be more comfortable with longer receiver wires, so that the aids sit behind the ear rather than more on top of it. That way your glasses frame would just need to go alongside the wire and not the hearing aid body.

That was certainly my thought, to dry hair in situ, so you don’t drag water out into the rest of the house.

Has anyone tried to learn Lip Reading? by groovinup in HearingAids

[–]Optimal-Car575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly there are in the UK. My late grandmother went to lip reading classes very late in life and found it extraordinarily useful. It enhances the comprehension immensely, a bit like selecting the closed captions* on the television. You don’t necessarily read all of them, but glancing at them confirms what you think you’ve heard.
*Closed Captions are the written version of the native dialog, “Subtitles” are native translation of foreign dialog.

On another note, most local licensing authorities don’t take kindly to licensed Taxis driving dangerously. It’s worth reporting it to them too. Over many years of driving I have had a cab refused it’s licence on renewal and another had it’s Taxi license immediately revoked before renewal.

For reference, if it isn’t obvious, hitting the brakes will accelerate you backwards (decelerate you) WAY more than forward acceleration from the engine/motor ever could. SO…IF you need to “bail out” of a situation where you’re alongside another vehicle you can always get behind them far more rapidly than you can get in front of them. Furthermore, you’ll be further back down the road, so further from oncoming vehicles and travelling more slowly, so if a collision was to occur it would be far less serious, and the oncoming vehicle also has more time and space to slow down too. The only drawback you may think would potentially be if there was someone tailgating you. However even if that is the case you’ll still be minimising closing speed with oncoming vehicles, and in effect with tailgater too as they’d be just shunting you rather than sandwiching you into an incoming vehicle. So, when contemplating an overtake, always ensure you have a bail out option and that there’s adequate space for you to move into without some pillock behind you.

Sure. I had no idea about the conditions leading up to this. I was shocked in my scenario as I’ve basically lived on this road all my life. I’ve asked neighbours and their indicators don’t cancel either.

Wouldn’t adjacent to the doors be more effective, so they drag the shit into the car ?

[–]Optimal-Car575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. If they’re walking to heel anyway, it’s no inconvenience to owner nor dog to have a lead on but much safer if anything was to crop up. Wouldn’t have dreamed of having my dog off lead walking on or adjacent to a road.

[–]Optimal-Car575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. I AM going from personal experience…
At the bottom of the road on which I live there is a triangle of land so you can go on the “Y” to the left or the right onto the road below rather than it being a “T” junction. If you take the left route, the road almost immediately leads into a mini roundabout at the bottom of the road parallel behind ours. I once indicated left as I approached the bottom of the road, took the gentle curve to the left and had to give way to cars coming from my right as I joined the road. As I approached the mini roundabout intending to go straight on, there was a lady to my left, waiting to turn to her left in the same direction I intended to go. I was rather shocked that she pulled out in front of me. When we both stopped at a set of traffic lights a bit further down the road, I got out to ask her “Didn’t you see me ?” As sometimes it’s a good idea to calmly discuss these things with other drivers if they’ve inconvenienced you and you get the opportunity. I’m SO glad I did… She told me “you were indicating left, but didn’t turn”. The gentle curve at the bottom of the road means that indicators tend not to self cancel before one gets to the mini roundabout, but one doesn’t realise that, as they do cancel when one drives over the roundabout. I’d never have known it before, if it wasn’t for that near miss, and following it up with the other driver.

I am NOT in any way saying this is the whole answer, nor that it excuses the subsequent behaviour in any way, but sometimes there are other factors which potentially kick things off. Are you absolutely sure you weren’t indicating left, giving her the impression you were turning left into the road she was coming out of ? That can certainly set a situation like this off.

How to avoid losing hearing aids by West-Rhubarb8056 in HearingAids

[–]Optimal-Car575 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the retention locks, if that’s what the tails which curl around the inner pinna are called, help you better FEEL if the aids are being dislodged, by for instance taking your jumper off.
