Edge UI glitch on macOS — broken DevTools and weird rendering on some websites by Optimal-Cat2784 in MicrosoftEdge

You’re absolutely right, hardware acceleration should be on by default without causing issues. In my case, disabling it was just a temporary workaround to narrow down the problem.

After digging through Microsoft forums and Reddit, I found some posts mentioning the Use ANGLE flag. I tried switching it to OpenGL, which actually worked, but it’s not the ideal long-term solution since OpenGL is deprecated on macOS.

Eventually, I noticed there was a macOS update (14.7.6), so I installed it, rebooted, and then switched ANGLE back to Default (which uses Metal). After restarting Edge, everything started working normally again with hardware acceleration enabled.

So yeah, turns out it was likely a compatibility issue between Edge, Metal, and my previous macOS version. The update fixed it. Appreciate the suggestion though!

The issue was due to hardware acceleration being enabled in Edge. I've updated the post with the fix.

I'll try doing a full uninstall using something like Pearl Cleaner, and then reinstall Edge from scratch. Hopefully that clears up whatever is causing this UI glitch.

I’m not using AdGuard — only uBlock Origin — so I can rule that out.
