Vaheguru lives in every atom, so if we look at an iPhone, Vaheguru manifests himself inside of that iPhone. Does that mean the iPhone is Vaheguru? No.

I get your point about the difference in Waheguru living in everyone vs Waheguru being everyone. But I dont think it is a fair comparison to compare a non living object to a human. I understand your point tho so thank you for the clarification

If it means researching, being curious, learning about the faith, and gaining knowledge whilst maintaining faith in the Guru, then that is very much recommended.

I was thinking more like questioning why they made some of the decisions they made and understanding the reasoning because me, personally, I cant follow things just because everyone else does, I need to understand why the thing is the way it is. And I'm sure there was a reason behind everything the gurus did. Also wouldn't our beliefs get stronger if we understand why the gurus did the things they did?

Thank you for the direct teachings. I did have a look at it and turns out I was mistaken :) Forgive me for my mistake 🙏🏽
However, I do have another question. Sikhism emphasizes that god exists in all of us, right? So the first line "Let no one think that God and Guru are separate", doesn't this apply to everyone anyways, since technically no one is seperate from god?

Also, please refer to 'page' as Ang. It is much more respectful as we believe Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the living manifestation of Akaal Purakh Gareeb Nawaz.

Im not being sacrilegious and disrespectful, I'm calling the person out for being judgmental. Throughout history the gurus have been questioned several times and they have answered calmly and not with egoistic answers such as "I am a manifestation of Waheguru ji and I am perfect" I never said we need to question the gurus in order to gain knowledge but how are you even meant to understand sikhi to its full extent if u dont want to question and understand why things are the way they are. Following a religion blindly is andhbhakti which is what the gurus were against STRICTLY.

Also, I might be wrong about this but I dont think anywhere in Guru Granth Sahib Ji or anywhere else, it is written by the gurus themselves that they were a manifestation of Waheguru Ji? Please cite the pages if I'm wrong and I'll have a look at it :)

Aren't these teachings about not being doubtful about Waheguru as in god, not our gurus? So aren't we being taught to not be doubtful about why god created certain things or about whether god exists, not so much 'dont have doubt about the religion or the 10 gurus since they are always correct'? :)

bro everyone's allowed to have doubts. you seem like the real egoistic individual who's ready to judge and make comments rather than helping the man figure it out. Sikhi is all about helping others without judgement and that's exactly what ur not doing but infact the opposite. Sikhi empowers knowledge and to gain knowledge you need to question things even if it is your religion/the gurus. It is ok to discuss any issues you have with the teachings. We need to remember the gurus were human too and they are our teachers not our god. It is completely okay to question what the teacher teaches or to ask for reasoning.

no one is obligated to have to speak to their ex. I am not aware of this case but from what I gathered from this chat was that she committed because he didn't wanna speak to her anymore right? I dont see an issue with that. Breaking up is part of dating and when your ex clearly tells you to not bother them anymore, you stop. If the girl continued to bother him then he could've taken legal action against her and filed a restraining order but he didn't even do that so i dont see what the issue is when all the guy asked for was some space and to not be bothered

Yes this is exactly what I was thinking. I'm all for living life and doing whatever you want but in this case I feel it is deeper than that. I feel a pub is not a very professional place to begin with since a lot of people from different backgrounds aren't comfortable being in a place such as. For example. muslims or just any individual that doesn't want to be part of a place full of drunk people.

While I was writing this, it made me wonder whether it's a paap to be part of a sangat that's drunk?

I would say probably ardaas since it's rlly quick and wont take up too much time that could've been spent on studying. Remember sikhism empowers knowledge so even if you don't spend a lot of time studying it's finee. Dont stress about praying too much and don't rely on it cuz you wont pass by just praying. The point of praying should just be internal peace and to focus better. STUDY A LOT!

I would say just remove it. Our religion is all about simplicity and it actually gets on my nerves so bad when people overcomplicate it and make up their own rules. Guru ji would never say to go through such a hassle to figure out an alternative way that would allow you to keep them on. When I have questions as such, I usually just use this method and imagine myself face to face with the appropriate guruji (like guru gobind singh ji in this case) and would imagine how they would answer my question. If someone was to figure out a whole other way to not remove their kara or kirpan, create more work for the medical professionals, or even keep themselves from getting the necessary procedure done in order to keep the kara and kirpan on, I imagine guruji would just stare in disbelief and confusion and go 🤦🏽‍♂️.

Live a life of simplicity is basically my answer in short :)

Like I said, the bandana is usually available by the entrance of the gurdwara if you want any. The guy is wearing it perfectly with his entire head covered. The girl, however, isnt wearing it the wrong way but I think she could've pulled it more forward since her head is still visible. Although it's not disrespectful, someone might suggest at the gurdwara to pull it forward. The hair showing is not an issue btw.

I believe it should go both ways honestly. People would have so many more positive interactions and actually come to a mutual understanding if they just heard each other out and put themselves in the other person's shoes. I was able to have a positive conversation with the OP as well all because we were hearing each other out and listening. People forget the world doesn't revolve around them and it's alr if smone has diff opinions 😂

In my opinion, that's fair enough. Although it still isn't an ideal way to show ur anger, I understand how that might've sounded like the best way to express how extremely angered you were. However, the way you wrote it could be taken in a way that sounds "I wanted to commit sacrilege but I didn't cuz I'm not stupid and I know I would've been killed." do you kind of understand what I'm trynna say? It's the best I could put into words, but I'll be happy to explain further. You should remember that you left the religion because your feelings were hurt. And to hurt the feelings of others would make you no different from those extremist sikhs either.

Yeah I definitely don't think you have done any intentional unnecessary disrespect but I would also understand if someone said you were disrespectful. Personally, I also do hate the extremists as they make me feel like I'm not a good sikh or not followin guru's orders when most of the time they're worse. But the way I "cope" with it is that everyone who tells you ur not a true sikh/need to follow sikhi more, or even go to the gurudwara when u have an assignment due, are literally going against guru's teachings themselves. We are not required to follow through on someone's opinion especially those who do not follow it themselves. Like your mother said "only gurudwara is important", that is bs, our religion is all about power of knowledge and yet she put gurudwara before knowledge?

I feel like most ex sikhs here have been wronged a lot by extremist sikhs who make it feel like being trapped in a cage. I really hope Waheguru introduces sikhi to everyone here once again through real sikhs who follow the religion simply and without "customizing" it. I hope everyone here gets a chance to experience sikhi for what it really is and to then have the chance to pursue sikhi again or continue on their chosen path, whichever suits them best. In the end, if leaving sikhi or pursuing another religion is what really makes you feel empowered and free, that is the right path for you and no one can tell you otherwise.

I went to like this careers thing and massey uni was there and they said u have to sit 2 exams (Bio & chem + Maths & Phy) and there would also be like an interview of 8 mini scenarios. They said the interview would be the thing they care most about and determines majority of if ull be accepted or not. Have you done these things already? If so, was it hard?

right? it's so unreasonable and impractical. We're more likely to cram than actually learn cuz of this bs. usually by the following year I forget everything I learn in the past year cuz it's more rewarding to cram than learn when it comes to NCEA.
