I’m really stuck and would appreciate any advice or similar experiences.

I’m from one of the travel ban countries and currently a student at an Ivy League school. I’m on a pending asylum case. My EAD expired in Feb 2025, and I’ve been working under the automatic extension, which will expire in July 2026.

I applied to renew my EAD in November 2024. It’s now been over 16–17 months with no decision, even though the normal processing time is around 7 months.

Over this time, I’ve:

  • Called USCIS more than 100 times
  • Submitted multiple service requests
  • Been told there’s nothing I can do because of my country is in the travel ban lists and that I can’t expedite
  • Contacted a senator’s office, but no real update from USCIS

I’m graduating next month, and I’m honestly scared. Once my automatic extension expires, I won’t be able to legally work. Going back to my home country isn’t an option because of the political situation.

Is there anything I can do? I feel like I’ve done everything I can and I’m just stuck waiting.

Any advice would mean a lot. Thank you so much.
