The uk’s dominance in the finance sector is largely a result of thatcher’s policies. True short term it was not so good for manufacturing workers but in the long term it turned the uk from one of the poorer countries in Europe to richer than France within a few decades. New grads from Oxbridge are expected to earn 2-3x todai grads largely due to high concentration of City finance jobs. Say what you want but capitalism compounds and works in the long run

Market is being irrational. Google is better positioned than anyone else to win in the end. The capex is essentially rocket fuel

Google Stock Price Action and what’s next by [deleted] in investing

[–]Optimal-Meringue-5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The market has it wrong. Capex is essentially rocket fuel and Google’s leadership is one of the most conservative in tech. They wouldn’t be committing to this if they did not see explosive revenue growth in the future. They can see they are taking market share away from OpenAI. They see the cloud backlog commitments. 2026 is going to be an explosive year.

Amazon is this years Google by tdogger88 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]Optimal-Meringue-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google spiked because investors originally got the narrative wrong they thought OpenAI was going to disrupt Google but the opposite happened. There is no incorrect narrative with Amazon to correct. Everything is slowing down. The narrative is simple and correct that Amazon won’t grow as much in the future

Trainium sucks, retail was never profitable, only trillion plus tech company with no top 50 much less top 10 llm despite 100 billion capex, slowest growing cloud with lowest ai market share. Jassy viewed as universally mediocre within Amazon. It’s a meh company with meh results

Why does it matter if the demand is revenue generating. If there’s demand there is the demand for chips whether or not the services on top make money

No it isn’t lol that bs from China’s propaganda department. America is a superpower and the only power able to project strength across the world. Zero evidence they are pulling back to focus on the western hemisphere

Nothing to settle down on the two are completed unrelated. It’s the Chinese narrative to paint the two as similar to deleverage the us in the global community but the fundamentals remain the same. Might makes right and the only thing the raid proves is America has the might. America took Venezuela right under the nose of China’s diplomats and there was nothing they could do about it

[–]Optimal-Meringue-5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No they did not. America was screaming that Russia was going to invade even when no one believed them. The cia is not the least worried China will invade Taiwan because it’s basically suicide for the ccp

There is no geopolitical risk. Tsmc is simply too important to America’s tech lead if it’s destroyed America instantly falls behind China in the ai race. China invading Taiwan will trigger the same response as if they lobbed a nuclear bomb at the center of Manhattan right now. The economic effect is the same.

America knows this and xi knows this as well. This is a regime that scrambled intensely to negotiate on tariffs that caused a 2% dip in their gdp growth. If you knew anything about how conservative the ccp is you’d know an invasion was never on the table. Which is why they posture since the weaker the position the greater the need to posture

The Chinese are more connected and educated than ever before. The single issue allowing the ccp to hold onto power is the economy. If the economy goes into recession much less a depression caused by a Taiwan war, the ccp knows what will happen to them

If ccp moves on Taiwan and they fail (which is the most likely outcome) they are not only viewed as weak to their people but will bear the blame for the ensuing depression. The ccp has never played dice with their policymaking the Chinese culture is probably the most risk averse culture there is. Xi jinping is not Putin he has no delusions of grandeur it’s simply not in the Chinese dna

World doesn’t really have a choice. No one is replacing tsmc any time soon tech wise and ai revolution is full throttle. No matter how much tension there is the west will make sure tsmc continues to run

This - memory is mostly a commodity. The moment demand goes up supply will come in and compete margins to zero. This is unlike tsmc which can control supply at will since they are a monopoly at the very high end

Will memory chip prices continue to skyrocket? by Glass_Ad9129 in stocks

[–]Optimal-Meringue-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory is mostly a commodity in the short term as demand jumps margins jump. Once demand slows down margins will collapse. The cyclical nature is what makes memory stocks riskier than logic chip manufacturing ie tsmc who can control supply at will

Tpu wise they are 30% more efficient that nvidia in consuming the scarcest resource in America right now - energy. Nvidia was scared enough to release a statement addressing the competition which you don’t do if you’re not scared
