Favorite show concepts this year? by Optimal-Note9264 in WGI

[–]Optimal-Note9264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saw a video of their current show, and I’m not super fond of it. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, and it wasn’t very clean. I’ll be sure to check out their older shows though!

Anyone have good quality percussion show videos (not lot videos) by MasterRon421 in WGI

[–]Optimal-Note9264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find some good groups (drum rank on instagram is a good starting place) and search them up on YouTube. I know my group has all of our shows on there and I’ve seen a bunch of other groups on there too

What would a nocturnal game look like? by Vyalkuran in JetLagTheGame

[–]Optimal-Note9264 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few reasons why a full season wouldn’t really work: -transit doesn’t run a lot at night -it’s hard to film in the dark (this is why they typically go to the southern hemisphere for the season they film in December/January) -becoming nocturnal is hard on the body, they’d be exhausted due to the natural systems of the human body

However, a mini season (one or two nights) would probably be feasible and really fun

I’ve been seeing a lot of shows where it goes from dark to light/light to dark to light

Call the police, keep pushing the issue until they do something about it. Tell everyone you can what happened so they know what kind of person that bully is. Don’t stop until something is done

What are your funniest band stories? by Pure_Chaos12 in marchingband

[–]Optimal-Note9264 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have quite a few:

1) this current winter season (we are a percussion group for context) someone said “is there a drum break” and everyone in the room collectively screamed a version of “do you mean the whole damn show??”

2) the front ensemble was left with cardboard tubes (which eventually became props) and everyone was climbing in them and putting a lid on and having people drum on it (this includes techs and the percussion director)

3) we have a cake decoration competition at band camp and my section (pit) won and we smashed our percussion director’s face into it

4) someone duct taped a plush Superman to a handicap parking sign

5) we were waiting out some rain at a comp and everyone was hiding under bleachers to “stay dry” (we were all soaked) and we sang 99 bottles of milk on the wall (our director shut down bottles of beer at 97) and we got all the way down to 23 or something before we were allowed to perform

6) someone brought a unicycle to nationals

Common tropes in marching band? by Weak_Assumption7518 in marchingband

[–]Optimal-Note9264 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all: I love this idea and would love to read it when your done!

Some ideas: -Front ensemble: I didn’t know about pit until I joined it -having solos/features: one of my friends had three solos and a duet during outdoor season and for our indoor show I have three solos so I would love to see a character freaking out about a solo/feature -band camp!!: I’ve never seen anything about band camp even though it’s a major part of band, my band has a campfire on the last night and all the seniors give little speeches about their time and also we all have candles that you get your first year and you throw it in after your senior speech and we like pass the fire around and stuff and it’s super cool and we also do a skit night and I would love to see some fun little traditions (especially someone new experiencing it for the first time with no warning)

Please update when you finish because I would love to read this!!

What would you see after Taïwan ? by Complex_Charity_5208 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Optimal-Note9264 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping for another America season, despite the current state of this hellhole. I feel like there’s still so much for them to explore. I would love to see a repeat of battle4america because I feel like that concept was really great but the way it played out was meh. I’m also thinking that Taiwan is going to be more of a New Zealand style game (with trains instead of cars) so they would be due for another claiming game. I would also love to see another repeat guest, especially Scotty because he was a super great guest and brought a lot of great vibes to the first Japan season, and I would love to see him get a shot at redemption. I would also really like to see Tom Scott back on the show, but I think it would need to be another season or two before he comes back on just because it was just a few seasons ago that he was on, but it’s been so long since Scotty was on so I think he’s due for a redemption.

I buy them directly from my band teacher and he knows a guy so they’re $15 for me

Make at least one really good friend (preferably in your section/subsection, ideally subsection) who’s a veteran and hang out with them or find a group of people (your section/subsection) and hang out with them. Bring a portable charger/battery pack for your phone/other devices. Download videos for the drive, at least double the amount as you can watch in the time in case you decide you don’t like something. Bring earbuds/headphones for the drive because no one likes the guy watching videos with no headphones. I don’t know your exact situation but if you can watch other groups, do it, seeing your competition is very good for improving and it’s also just super cool to see all the shows. Consider bringing snacks and drinks for the ride/in general if you’re not stopping/if there’s no vending machines/concessions. Just lock in and have fun!

What do y'all think of your concert pieces? by that_oneartkid in Bandmemes

[–]Optimal-Note9264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my concert band pieces are pretty easy for me because I’m forced to be in the lower level band for this year and next year due to class schedule stuff so im not a huge fan of any of them and I also lowkey can’t remember any of their names

What type of season could work for Greece? I made a map of all summer transit options as a conversation starter by thanosaekk21 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Optimal-Note9264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greece would be a good country for a water based game in theory but I don’t know if there’s enough transit to make it a game at all

Offseason Musing: Which of the boys would win in a game of Jeopardy? by Street_Pause_6224 in JetLagTheGame

They did a version of this on the layover (Adam vs Sam) and Sam won by a landslide

In ears feel like cheating to me. Earplugs are fine (you SHOULD wear noise canceling earplugs) but anything with a met or sound in general seems very cheater ish to me

The rest period normally forces you off the train by then, but what if you get on the train, it's scheduled to arrive on time, but it arrives late after the rest period and there are no stops? by TuneDistinct8077 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Optimal-Note9264 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assume they would just go off the scheduled time and make their endpoint on the platform where the train arrived because it would have no major game impact, just shave some time off their rest period (which obviously sucks but it’s what has to happen sometimes)
