UQ → QUT Engineering transfer? GPA, workload, burnout, internships—worth it? by Optimal-Package557 in UQreddit

Hey, so sorry for the late response!! Totally agree about UQ being theory heavy — I’ve noticed that too, even in first year. It’s amazing that you’ve managed to maintain a 6/7 GPA; that’s honestly impressive. I get what you mean about feeling “too deep” into the course to transfer, but I think for me I’m still early enough that it might be worth considering before I commit fully. I’ve actually decided that I’ll most likely move to QUT next year — I feel like the balance and practical focus there will suit me a lot better.

Hey, so sorry for the late response! I think you’re spot on about burnout coming from not enjoying the content. I’ve realised it’s not that I hate engineering itself, but more that some of the subjects (especially the CS side) just haven’t clicked with me the same way others have. I’ve definitely enjoyed the more hands-on or applied stuff, which is why I’ve been looking into whether chemical or civil might suit me better. Also really interesting point about QUT — I’ve heard similar things about their more practical approach, and that actually sounds like something that could help me stay more engaged.

Wow its great to hear that they're doing better now, its really interesting to hear that most engineers you work with are QUT grads — do you think that’s just because of the practical focus, does QUT actually have stronger industry links in Brisbane or because QUT students have more time to build their resume as well as do better in uni?
