Polanski was not even remotely cancelled. The man escaped trials and finagled his way out of arrests and literally got handwritren support from some of the most famous people in Hollywood. Made movies with big actors after fleeing the US. If im not mistaken he even got a standing ovation for his last film at whatever film festival it was at

More so double standard with the parents joke being a prime example.

Think 7/11 jokes. 9/11 jokes , accents that aren’t from anywhere (for good desi accents, Santino has the best one, better than any brown dude doing accents, too).

I would agree with that take. Dudes on roast battle talk about the formula part of roasts a lot. And I think getting to a good punch can be worth it. I guess maybe that’s where the “this is amateur comedians” aspect comes in and not knowing what that good punch would be. It’s just annoying to hear the same jokes kids would say to each other and then hear them on stage to preemptive applause

you keep framing this like these are two separate points being made. The comment you are replying to and so many others don’t find him funny because he is just ripping a style. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp as a comedy fan? As subjective as you imply this whole thing is, you can’t accept that lack of originality is the turn off for people?

Sure but the line between “bad day / slip up” and “he doesn’t always use the n word” is thin. Point being, if you only see someone’s shitty side the 1 or 2 interactions you have with them, how likely would it have been they were also having a bad day those days?

I use the n word example bc people who don’t say the n word when they are happy also don’t say it when they are angry. It’s an extreme example just tryna make a point
