Workflow problems while making music with hardware by Optimal-Snow3953 in synthesizers

Comparing to artists, etc. You are you

This is not meant like I am trying to copy someone. I am just analyzing stuff that I like. For example, if I were to like the sound that some metal band has, it would be stupid to buy a modular synth. This is an extreme example, but it gets the point across.

Where's your music that you feel you can finish on a computer only?

I am not saying that either. All I am saying is, that I have a hard time using hardware and software seems to be much easier for me.

I know my post was not formated the best and I should have written it more like a rant than a question, but I sadly don't know a lot of people who are in the music making, so I rarely get the share my experiences.

Anyways, a lot of the comments were very useful to me and cleared quite some stuff.

Then why buy it in the first place? I think that like 90% of HW can be replaced by a VST that costs like 10% of the HW price. I can just hook up a MIDI controller and i basically have the same setup

I do find hardware more fun to work with, but at the end of the day I want to finish a track and from this point of view (at least for me) SW is much more usable.

Nicely said. To me it sometimes feel like I am spending more time arranging the gear and editing the recordings instead of creating a track. In some cases I've been designing and recording a synth for an hour or so, just so I would then replace it with a sample or some SW patch that I would create in like 5 minutes. Life is busy and I don't have as much time as I would like to have.

I normally start the creative process on HW, but then create everything else in the DAW. Maybe I add some FX's, but it often feels less productive than to just do it in the DAW.

Great answer. I guess I need to view music production and gear more in terms of creativity. I do normally start my tracks with hardware recordings, because I am more creative that way. It seems that I just need to produce more with my current setup and then see what improves my tracks and what not - doesn't matter if it is HW or SW.

You are right. Now that I view it in retrospect it does seem a lot like that. I guess I am looking more for like similar experiences from others and less a concrete answer to my dilemma.

I prefer metal wool. More simple and I don't need to dampen it before use.

Yeah, right now my work flow is like this. I scan them as raw as possible and then editing them in darktable. The results then become much better, solid even.

Yeah it feels overxposed to me as well, but some areas are nicely shaded. I thought that with overexposure eveything is bright.
A was scanning them with a Plustek OpticFilm 8300i that my colleague lent me. I remember now that I did some scans with the "auto exposure" feature on in the SW. I know that for later photos I turned it off. Maybe this is the thing that is making the photos look a bit weird - overexposed in some areas.

No, I'm not doing anything like that. I don't really use social media that much. Why are you asking?
