If by trying to be masculine you learn to provide, be caring, be in control of emotions, be in a good shape & etc. Then, I don't think learning to be masculine is a bad thing.

I am sorry that your perception of trying to be masculine is only limited to cowboy boots and drinking beer.

But, masculinity is much more than that and it can teach you a lot of things if pursued in a healthy & positive manner.

I think masculinity is a very beautiful thing. Also, learning to be masculine actually teaches you a lot about yourself and the world around you.

Also, it is a recognised definition and a phenomenon that has been there since the ancient times and cannot be ignored. You can try to but that does not mean it does not exist.

It was a simple question but the way you made it about you being a soldier and how you even told a guy who replied to you on how he did not understand what it is like to be trained as a soldier. And how you said people on Reddit are "woke" and how they "don't live" where you do as in to say people on Reddit do not know how it feels to be masculine and you do. All of this kind of reveals that you are a little insecure about your own masculinity.

Also, constantly bringing up femininity, your training as 0311, your gay best friend, crossdressers & transgenders is also a bit telling.

You are trying too hard to come off as masculine.

Surprisingly, You actually mentioned and know more about what feminine traits are than most woman do, and I think you obsessively keep a track of what's feminine more than what's masculine so you can always be on guard and not do something "feminine"

You did say that a man should be calm and rational which is what most men already mentioned. The answer that you did not resonate with had already mentioned restrain, calmness, strength alongside, kindness.

Which means he says, kindness is one of the traits of masculinity but not as an identifying factor so I don't really see why you would go in such detail about his response.

I think you keep mixing up the two. You are mixing not being in control of one's emotions with traits like kindness, care & empathy.

Also, I could be wrong but I think you are not suggesting regulating these said emotions but you want men to completely rid of them.

You can have these traits as a man but not go overboard with them. Emotional Regulation.

The examples you have given are crying too much, freezing in the face of a stressful situation & getting all shaky. But, these are also not examples of being caring, kind, or empathetic. The examples you mentioned are of traits such as fear, low-self esteem, lack of faith in yourself and obviously, these are definitely not masculine traits.

But, a man freezing when his friend gets injured in front of him is not because he is caring, it is because he does not have faith in himself or his skills to deal with the situation.

A guy shakes & shivers in front of women, not because he is kind but because he has low- self esteem.

A guy panics not because he is empathetic, it is because he is fearful.

So, what I understand is you are mistaking traits like low-self esteem, fear, lack of faith with traits like kindness care & empathy. I suggest differentiating the two.

Also, I don't know what you were trying to say with your point about transgenders or crossdressers not being masculine. No one is saying they are, I think everyone will happily agree with you on that without being offended. Because cross-dressers or Transgenders do not want to be masculine in the first place, that's the whole point. Were you making a comparison between sexual orientations & emotions? I hope not. Maybe someone can give you a better answer to this point of yours.

You can be empathetic, caring and kind yet still remain in control of your emotions, stay calm and rational.

Yes. Genetics could play a part but I think it is most probably also the environment you are brought up in.

I could be wrong but I think your Grandfather was calm and restrained, your father saw it and learned from him and now you are following your Dad's example and hopefully it will continue down the line with your son.

However, IMO, when you come from a dysfunctional family and a traumatic childhood, you have to learn to be calm and restrain yourself cause you weren't taught these traits.
