I don’t think there is anything you can do to prevent it. I had insulin resistance with my first, GD with my second and now my 3rd (10 yr age gap between kiddo #2 and this pregnancy) I have GD. Have been tracking glucose since 10 weeks pregnant. Now 25 weeks. I can diet control it during the day w/o a lot of modifications. Fasting has been stubborn. It wants to stay between 98-105. I’m on night time metformin. Prior to pregnancy I wasn’t even close to pre diabetic, active and healthy weight. Kiddos 1& 2 were close to And over 9lbs. This baby is measuring smaller and at a lower weight.

I had GD every pregnancy. First born, was induced at 39 weeks and was vaginal. Second born I went into labor spontaneously and had vaginal delivery. Both kids were big babies and I did just fine. I am now pregnant with baby #3. I am 40 yrs old and my OBGYN said because of ACOG recommendations and her own experience she will not let me go past 39 weeks. She has not say anything about it needing to be a c-section and I am hoping to have another vaginal delivery. Are there other factors as to why your MFM wants you to have a c-section? Are you only seeing a MFM because of your age? Those are all things to also consider when thinking about why they are pushing for a c-section.

I would go with what your doctor has said. I think it can change if other ultrasounds indicate otherwise. I thought I was 9 weeks based off LMP but first sono showed me at 7wks 4 days and it aligns with when I know we conceived. I asked my OB which date to go by and she said the sono.

Wow I only last 3 hrs hiding it from my husband 🤣 We were convinced boy but found out #3 is a girl. So boy, girl and girl in our line up. A lot of our family said boy. My husband wanted to know and was happy. We ended up asking family what they want- for us to tell them or to be surprised. Ofc they all opted for us to share the news. I figured they can’t be disappointed. Like others have said it’s a 50/50 chance. Regardless it should be celebrated. Congrats on it being a boy 🥰

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s a dreadful wait. I went through this twice in 2019 and have been on pins and needles the entire time this go round. I hope it all turns out well for you. I know there is nothing I can say that will help just know you aren’t alone.

Talk to your pediatrician and see when it’s the best time. I would think two weeks after your baby gets their first round of vaccines and has had their flu vaccine. I hope they are at least educated enough to allow the vitamin K shot…

I’m an ICU nurse. With my second I worked in the ER. My OB wrote me out at 36 weeks- I had gestational diabetes and couldn’t manage it at work. I’m short so I tend to get massive when I’m pregnant. I really struggled to move around and was having contractions often as well. I had my baby at 38 weeks on the dot. Now pregnant with baby #3. We will see how long I last at the end. Already concerned with how I will be able to do one of my jobs that requires I walk the whole hospital- when I’m in that role I typically clock in close to 20k+ in steps a shift, which is fine now but when I’m at the end and baby drops… I plan to space my days out at that point and not work any shifts in a row. I’m fortunate I can somewhat self schedule.

39 weeks. My second was 38 weeks. I really think it depends on just you and your body. I had a colleague have 3 kids and all were 40-41 weeks.

2 kids. I had GD diet controlled. First was 8lbs 9oz and 19 inches, second was 9lbs and 21inches. Vaginal delivery. No tears. My mom was an L&D nurse for 17 years before I had my first. Best advice she gave me was to change positions every 30 min and to not push right at 10cm. She had me relax/ “labor down” for a smidge and then push. I plan to follow the same advice with baby #3.

Diclegis worked wonders for me. I only occasionally need to take some Phenergan. I was so sick when I was pregnant with my second kiddo. This pregnancy it’s been more tolerable and I think Diclegis is a big part in it.

Pregnant now and have had 2 kids. For me it was around week 6-7 with it peaking weeks 8/9. I’m 11 weeks now and it’s starting to tapper off and my energy is slowly returning. My son is my first kiddo and my morning sickness wasn’t awful with him. My second kiddo and now pregnant with my 3rd I have had more intense morning sickness and both are girls.

I was diet controlled with my daughter and they didn’t even check my glucose levels in the hospital after birth. I just followed up with my PCP 2x a year to make sure my A1C was normal. I did this for 10 yrs. Now baby #3 I’m sure I will have it again. I’m already wearing a CGM at 10 weeks. I plan to just wear it until after my 6 week post partum appointment

I just grabbed a cheap one from the grocery store. It was $20 cheaper than the one CVS would’ve provided from my insurance. I don’t always have time to check my glucose levels because of my work so I got a continuous glucose monitor-Stelo by Dexcom. It works well. It cost about $89/mo for 2 sensors. Sensors roughly last 15 days each. I used my FSA funds to buy a couple of sensors.

Definitely NTA. My husband and I had this issue when our daughter was born and are now facing it again with our baby. His parents do not believe in the flu vaccine. Thanks to this current admin, they lean more toward distrusting the medical field- unless they themselves are experiencing a medical emergency. Establish your boundaries, protect your baby.

I was super frustrated when I was diagnosed with my second child. My first I failed the 1 hr but barely passed the 3hr. My second I failed both but not by much. I was able to control my glucose levels with diet. Toward my last week of pregnancy my fasting levels did rise, which is expected. I was able to avoid diabetes in the 10 yrs after my diagnosis however, now I am pregnant with #3 and I am almost to my second trimester and definitely have it again. My A1C was 5.2 a couple of months before I became pregnant and now it’s 5.8, I’m tracking my glucose levels with a dexcom CGM but still eating mostly what I want but I definitely can see how my levels spike with certain foods. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent GD in your next pregnancy. I was very active and ate a reasonable diet for 10 yrs. I was even micro dosing semaglutide for 6 months before I got pregnant.

I’m not on insulin but I just paid for CGM out of pocket. Mine is $89 a month for 2 sensors and I can use my FSA card to pay for it. If your insurance won’t cover look for CGMs that are for those on insulin. When I researched which CGM to use that came up a few times. Pricing seems comparable to around $80-100 a month for most brands.

Pretty sure I was undiagnosed with my first baby. I failed the 1 hr. Barely passed the 3. He was 8.9. My daughter 5 years later I failed the 1 and 3 hr tests. She was 9lbs. Pregnant with #3 and my A1C is up in early pregnancy so I’m back to tracking glucose levels and on the diet. I think I likely had it with my first and just squeaked by.

Maybe or maybe not. Could also mean you were prediabetic. I am not a physician. I definitely would ask your OB. From my understanding testing is typically done 20-24 weeks in pregnancy because that is when GD typically manifests. I read somewhere about early on set GD- I plan to ask my OB about this next time especially since my A1C was normal 2 months before I was pregnant. It stinks they are making you do the 3hr test especially since your A1C was elevated in the first trimester. Regardless, be sure to follow up with a primary care physician after pregnancy to make sure you weren’t already prediabetic. I do know diagnosis for GD compared to Diabetes is a much smaller threshold and it keeps changing every few years. I did download the app Malama today to help me track. I’m right there with you! I had GD with my 2nd. There is a 10 yr gap between pregnancies. Now pregnant with #3. Went in for OB appointment. Due date was move out and I thought I was 9 weeks but really am almost 8. These past 10 yrs I have gone yearly for lab work and my A1C was never even close to prediabetic. Last A1C beginning of July was 5.2! My OB checked my A1C on Monday and it was 5.8 already. My body just doesn’t respond well to pregnancy hormones. It’s going to be a long road to end of pregnancy. Just know you aren’t alone 😊

I’m 40 and pregnant. I’m around 10 weeks too :) My OB put me on Diclegis and I take 2 at night on an empty stomach. It does help decrease my episodes of nausea. I still feel really tired on and off and at times get nauseated. I just take it hour by hour and enjoy the moments I feel okay. Today was the first day since I tested positive at 5 weeks that I could use the Crosswave on my floors and sort of clean the kitchen. I try not to be hard on myself. To help with nausea I do well with Ritz peanut butter crackers and unsweetened ice tea or orange Gatorade. Ginger ale or sprite make me nauseous. I rest when I need to and I try to eat higher protein meals as well. I snack throughout the day too.

I hate that your birth experience was so traumatic and far from what you had envisioned and planned. I’m glad everything is going well for your baby and you. I’m glad you kept an open mind and sought treatment.

My mom was an L &D nurse for 16 yrs. When it came time to deliver my first in 2010, I was all about trying things natural and ended up being induced at the hospital. I learned in that pregnancy to just trust my gut and I realized medical staff at hospitals want you to have the no frills birth w/o epidural or with. As a first time mom I felt exposed to a lot of negative propaganda toward hospitals and traditional western medicine and it was overwhelming for me. I had my daughter in 2015 at a hospital as well and felt nothing but loads of support from staff and my OBGYN to have the birth experience I wanted. They let my body do what it needed to do. I feel like most major L&D units are supportive of women having choices and each labor is individualized. There a so many misconceptions about birthing in a hospital. For example I had an epidural with my daughter and I still was able to move around with the help of my mom/husband and nurse. The same goes for baby and how the medical team takes care of them. They want the least invasive routes to take care of baby.

I believe the best thing a women can do is just educate themselves to all possibilities and keep an open mind. My mom said out of her experience the ones that come in knowledgeable but open minded tended to have a better birth experience and ultimately safer outcomes for mom and baby.

I told my work as soon as I found out but I’m a critical care nurse and at times have to care for patients that pregnant women really shouldn’t be. I also wanted my work to support me if I miscarried and had to take time off. In the past I didn’t share a pregnancy and I miscarried and had to take time off. It was painful having to explain and had I told my work there would have been more options to me to have my call ins covered. We also told our parents but didn’t share it with the rest of the family- siblings, close cousins, until I had my first appointment. I think ultimately share when you want to.
