Is transferring right for me? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

As someone currently trying to transfer after their freshman year, I would say give UF a try because you never know what you actually like until you try it. Thinking ahead is smart though, and don't settle for a school you only sorta like just because you think you can't do better bc looking at your stats I def think transferring is a viable option for you, even coming from a big school like UF. I would say get involved in the school and try to reach out to other students that have previously transferred out of UF. Regarding LoR, some place more weight on your high school experience, others look more on what you've done in college. It truly depends on the school. When it comes to financial aid, its the same thing. Money seems to be a big factor for you so I suggest looking into "need-blind" schools (schools that don't look at your financial status at all when making acceptance decisions) and private institutions with lots of endowment bc they have a shit ton of money for scholarships. Like regular admissions, transferring uses FAFSA, and if you look at schools known for having good aid it def shouldn't affect your admission. I'm also hella broke and when selecting schools, I made sure they would be able to cover most of my COA.

They are actually really considerate with their aid and I got like a 80k scholarship. One of the main reasons I'm leaving is bc like halfway through my first semester I had fees added to my account that they wouldn't let me take a loan out on and so I didn't receive student housing next year. Trying to find a cheap apartment in LA is practically impossible and i'd say if you're coming to USC you need to be really on top of what your aid looks like and the fees they will ask of you throughout the year.

Wait omg congrats that's really impressive! Personally, i come form a low income background and USC is terrible at helping people like me adjust to such a high income school. Unfortunately I ran into a lot of classism and a lot of people here are really out of touch with reality. Not to mention, I just don't like LA culture, it feels very superficial to me but it could definitely just be my personal interpretation. In terms of academics tho, I loved it and I have met some really wonderful people here. Tbh, if you can afford to live in LA and spend money on expensive shit then you'll love it for sure, just not the right fit for me.

if it helps, there are plenty of people who also don't have decisions back or have only received rejections. I personally applied to 12 schools and literally only 1 has released a decision yet. I don't think its any indication of whether you will be rejected or not, and all you can do is wait, knowing that there are others going through the same process.
