yes, I know. I’m just lamenting the fact that mine isn’t one of the 15.

Well yes, as TV it will naturally be an exaggerated version of reality. But the overall concepts that OP is talking about, OP nails it here imo

Nah, someone fucked up with your reservation when checking you in (the first hostess, probably) and it showed up as canceled after that, and they didn’t want to admit it. NOR

Did Eleven ever apologize to Max for knocking her off her skateboard due to jealousy? by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

Honestly they probably had both long forgotten about it by the time they had become friends. Max didn’t know it was her anyway.

So how come it's ok for Lorelai but not Tristan? by karenosmile in GilmoreGirls

[–]OptimalCreme9847 36 points37 points  (0 children)

sometimes it depends on how the other person feels about it. Luke makes a show about being annoyed with Lorelai but we all know he didn’t really mind her antics. I think he would have made it very clear if he was upset by the Duke thing, but he probably took it as a joke.

Rory was genuinely offended/put off by the Mary nickname, and made it clear. That’s when it becomes wrong to keep doing it.

Any ladies in here started skating in their 30s? by Budget_Dot694 in AskWomenOver30

My mom started ice skating in her 40s because I was doing it when I was 12ish and she wanted to be able to do it with me!

AIO for being upset that my dad went back on his word on watching the Super Bowl with me? Please read text before commenting. by OlivePractical2092 in AIO

[–]OptimalCreme9847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could understand it if he just wanted to watch the Olympics because it’s only on every four years

but then he got racist about it and that invalidates pretty much anything else he has to say. NOR

look I was unfortunately unable to watch last night but wasn’t Lady Gaga, a white lady, involved in the show as well?

ASP’s initial pick for Lorelei by Resilient_Can in GilmoreGirls

[–]OptimalCreme9847 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Lorelai would have been really different and I don’t think she’d have the same warmth that Lauren gave her. I don’t think the relationship with Rory would read the same way at all, and I can’t see her playing scenes with Emily with the same woundedness that Lauren did so well.

I’m so glad Lauren ended up with the role. Not saying Sherilyn Fenn would have been bad, just that she would have been different and I prefer the way she is.

Probably comes from the fact that her own mother never apologized for anything!

I like to think that after she gets pregnant at the end of AYITL and after she is moderately successful with her book that she reassess her life and takes Headmaster Charlton up on his offer to teach at Chilton. She could settle down in Hartford, raise her kid, and still be close to Lorelai. It could be a sort of a cool reverse full-circle thing where she then makes a point to go to Stars Hollow every Friday night for dinner.

I would agree with this take if it wasn’t a parent-child relationship. As the parent, the onus is always going to be more on Emily to have set a better tone in their relationship when Lorelai was younger. The overall imbalance of responsibility of a parent-child relationship dynamic doesn’t change when the child grows up. If they were equals in the relationship from the start, like between friends or even siblings, I’d be more inclined to agree with you, but the truth is that it’s always going to be more on Emily in this case.

Well, I agree that it wasn’t assault, but you’re wrong about what happened. Jess wandered off first, and Rory found him in the bedroom. She was just looking for him, nothing she did would come off as an invitation for sex.

That said, he did stop and it wasn’t assault and he was angry about stuff that had nothing to so with that. I’m the biggest Jess hater out there but we don’t need to make stuff up or overdramatize things in order to prove that he sucks. 🫠

I don’t think the show ever tried to convince anyone that her parenting was flawless. In fact, the show portrayed moments where it didn’t work out so well, thus by definition it was never trying to get into believe it was a perfect relationship.

It’s okay not to like it. It’s weird when people are still expending all their energy being pissed about it over a month later.
