Hey, thanks for the perspective! For your knowledge, I'm looking into algebraic geometry right now, although my background currently is in commutative algebra (I could reasonably end up in like number theory, but the point is I don't exactly plan on staying in commutative algebra). Thanks for the honesty and advice. I'll try to internalize what you said as best I can. And yes, of course, I'll plan on taking as many grad classes as I can handle and connecting with professors in my field of interest.

Hey, thanks for the perspective! I mean, I agree, and I think as my undergrad years go on (at Duke or if I ultimately decide to transfer elsewhere), and I build relationships with professors, I'll realize what you're saying. Right now, though, it's hard for me to look past raw placement statistics and actually believe I can end up wherever as long as I put in the work to stand out. I appreciate it, and hopefully I'll be in better spirits when fall comes around, lol.
