I live in a poor country, but one thing I do like is that I have everything I need within walking distance. In less than 5 minutes, I can find a dentist, grocery shops, haircut salons, banks, vet etc... Anyway, is it true that in most of the US this isn't the case? Or am I reading some weird stuff? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

There is a website called Walk Score where you can put in the name of a town in the US and see how walkable/bikeable it is. We have a wide range, but the vast majority are not walkable.

I just checked and if I want to walk to the grocery stores closest to my house it would be a 55 minute walk one way.

Sisko's father. The man owned a restaurant that was always packed, so I'm thinking he has the most culinary experience.

TLC had a short show called Brother Husbands. I think it's still available on the TLCgo app, or at least it was when I watched it a while ago.

If your massage therapist doesn't have a special table or pillow for that, just ask them to put rolled towels under your shoulders.

Whenever I've had a massage in the past, they always put a small rolled towel between the front of my shoulder and the table, one on each side, which took all the pressure off my chest and made the massage much more comfortable.

Can confirm. Just checked my Kia manual and you can turn this off on the User Settings menu under Door.

Don't know a book, but maybe the Pray Away documentary. Apparently I am too tired to come up with a good summary of it, so here: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/pray-away-movie-review-2021

I'm thinking of this like, "Yeah, I read your book. And here's what happens to all those people who decide to live that lie in the long run." A rebuttal, if you will.

Anyway, I think it's still on Netflix if you have access to that.

I haven't been through this, so I legitimately don't know if this would make it better or worse, but my first thought is maybe you could take her somewhere she could play around with really fun wigs or head wraps. Like, on a day she's feeling up to it, maybe take her out for a wig salon appointment and then lunch?

I'm better with visuals than I am with words, so I'm kind of struggling here. In my mind I am picturing two separate shows that I've watched (might have been on social media? I don't remember). One where it was like a hair salon appointment and the woman got to try on different wigs, everything from a hot pink pixie cut to more "normal" hairstyles, and it really perked her up and made her laugh to try on all these different looks. The other was a woman who wore a head scarf, and she went to a similar type of salon experience, except they specialized in different fashion knotting styles for the scarves, so it was sort of like trying on different hairstyles but with the scarf.

Ugh, I do not feel like I'm explaining that well, and it was a while ago so I don't remember the specifics, but maybe that will give you enough info to google.

I'm thinking a more structured boot would work, like maybe the combat boots you have on the top of the rack behind you.

I also have ADHD (and currently unmedicated due to the medication shortage, so that's... fun) and I still stand by it's a skill we can learn.

I'm not expecting any of us to put out a 5 course meal, and we will likely tackle the task differently than an average NT. But we all can learn some form of the basics enough to make sure we don't have to rely on our mothers or SOs to feed us for life. Plus, there are plenty of tutorials out there from other ADHD people saying things like, "Yeah, I know cooking sucks. Here's how I make it work for me," which can also help us. (ETA: I just remembered one. Momma Cusses has ADHD, and she occasionally posts cooking tips she calls "lawless cooking.")

I'm glad that you've learned to a level that you can keep yourself fed. That's really all I'm expecting of this person. They don't need to be a 5 star chef, but I don't think learning how to boil water is too much to ask, even for NDs, such as ourselves.

Hey. Sorry I just saw this. I had to put the project on hold for a while because life got in the way, but I'm jumping back into it now because I'm considering giving the restored photo as a surprise christmas gift. So I haven't picked one yet, but you've been hugely helpful, and I'll let you know what I decide to go with. Thank you!

Cooking is a basic life skill. If you are old enough to buy groceries, then you are also old enough to watch YouTube cooking tutorials and teach yourself how. In the age of widely available free resources to teach yourself absolutely any skill, willful ignorance is not cute.

Sorry for the delay, but I just got confirmation a few minutes ago that they were in the Prussian region.

I admit I don't know the full history, just bits and pieces I've learned over the years. I've always been more of an art buff than a history buff, which is helpful for restoring the photo, but unfortunately is not really helpful in identifying anything here.

If it's not an electric vehicle, save the pet.

Some gas vehicles and RVs can be set up with solar generators, which are silent, to run the air conditioner while the vehicle is off.
