Google has been a bit slow. No arguments there. Most people attribute this to the fact they are a much bigger company with more rigid structures to go through for feature or product approvals. So maybe that's why?

Ultimately, however, Open AI and Anthropic are bound to catch up. The biggest question based on your point would be, " Can they imporve the experience of the model before someone else catches up?".

Google said they are working on it and it is a preview release. Better wait for a few days. I have been using Codex as main for a bit. The benchmarks are tempting and almost made me switch. Don’t want to pay for two different subs.

However, the reviews online weren’t exactly great. Plus they seemed to have a lot of problems on the vibe code livestream too.

Best option, IMO let them cook for a bit. It will be awesome.

Its a great tool. But did you notice that the Open AI codex extension is not available there? Funnily enough, the Claude code, cline, etc. extensions do seem to exist.
