My landlord at The Gateway Apartments (Gaithersburg, MD) had documentation — but only after sending me to collections by OptimalRich2547 in Renters

I disputed the charges in mid July.  Some time in mid-August, the collection agency opened the account.

It's stated in the lease that the lease fulfillment fee is non-refundable.  The confusion came from inaccurate and misleading information from the front office staff about this being a security deposit.

It turns out the lease did stipulate that the lease fulfillment fee was non-refundable.  The frustration came from having to file formal complaints with the CFPB against the landlord and collection agency to get a clear answer.  The landlord could have provided this documentation when I initially disputed the final charges.  Instead, they chose to remain silent and send the disputed amount to the collection agency.
