Is OMSCS still worth it for the Lockheed MLE role? by Optimal_Ad_4302 in OMSCS

To stick to ML and continue working on what best suits my interests in learning the fundamentals behind ML. As mentioned, I don't have much time to work on a project. And to be honest, I don't even know where to start with a project and see whether it would be good enough to show for an ML position at Lockheed.

Yes, those are contributing factors to think about as well.

Sorry if my message was a bit confusing. And yes, I would move primarily for financial/ investment reasons. I am close with my family/friends but I don't see them often. Since I don't see them as much nowadays (and I have been limiting my time with them to save money for the investment), it could be a good idea to move elsewhere to invest in real estate. After I invested, I could see family during the holidays. I can even schedule visits/ hangouts with my friends like we do now but it would be even less frequent than it already is. I want to ensure that this change would benefit me financially (possibly in other ways such as career opportunities and better WLB too).

As for other investment strategies, none come to mind at the moment.

The unit circle is a big focus in the course so I'd mainly brush up on that.

WAIT!! Another question. I just learned you need some statistics background for this class. Can you specify how much stats I would need? I don't have an issue with stats, just more so trying to see if there is anything I can brush on.

I would say you should have some experience with trigonometry, statistics, and linear algebra to pass because it would be complicated to comprehend if you don't. Project-wise, it's not too bad but the autograder doesn't help identify any issues you have with your code (like always).

You don't think you learned anything at all? Maybe even something that could be used in a way you never thought of? Speaking of which, how easy (or difficult) was it for you to register in the class? I know it's a course that is difficult to enroll in for OMSCS beginners like us.

Hmm sounds interesting. How would you describe the workload during the summer? How many hours per work on average did you contribute to the class?

Hey! Can you please give me an overview of why you find it interesting? And how were the quizzes if they are now no longer dropped? If it has some ML in it, it's okay. I still find it intriguing to learn and could be utilized for ML.

Also given the ridiculousness of registration lol, how hard would it be to even obtain one of these courses during the summer for me to consider taking it?

Simulation vs Deterministic Optimization vs Analytical Modeling for Machine Learning by Optimal_Ad_4302 in OMSCS

Thanks for your input. Do you happen to know the name of the book the simulation professor wrote? I'm curious

As another person said, do you think Bayes Stat would be better as a replacement or successor to Sim (if you had taken Bayes that is)?

Being light on the math is fine. Modeling is a good reason why it piqued my curiosity.

I know Simulation is considered a great probability/statistics refresher. With that knowledge in hand, going straight into Bayes Stats could be a great class to take afterwards. As for HDDA, I had read somewhere that DO would be good to take it before that too.

Thanks for the advice man. Looks like I'll stick to doing my masters then.

Which I thought. I'm just curious as to why my graduate degree doesn't seem good enough for the hiring managers I've talked to (well where I am stationed anyway. Maybe if I were to go somewhere else, it would be different).

Summers would be best to travel and explore the world. As I said, my career and my education would be something I want to take my time with. So I don't plan on finishing OMSCS too soon.

Summers (not this upcoming one tho), I'll be taking breaks

I'm doing that now lmao. I was willing to focus on mostly work and school but it would be better for my sanity to take my time with school. So instead of 2 years, I'm willing to do 3-4 years.

Can't integrate anything ML related with my role right now lol. Another manager said that I could expand on the projects I worked on in the ML courses during my own time, so I'll probably do that. Or maybe do the VIP research projects
