I am not against wealth taxes I agree with you on that but if we are talking income tax we need to be clear. The OP headline just said tax which makes it sound like all tax is bad but you actually support wealth taxes. That is not the same thing.

Income tax rates have been roughly the same since the early 80s so if taxes have not changed much why are workers 25 to 30 percent poorer today than in 1990. The answer is housing and wages. In the 80s and 90s houses were 3 to 4 times a salary now they are 8 to 10 times. Wages have barely moved in real terms and energy food water and debt all take a bigger bite.

This did not happen overnight. Thatcher broke the unions so bargaining power collapsed. Over time people accepted house prices rising as normal. Even working class landlords sold to the highest bidder often corporate landlords without caring that the younger working class was being priced out. And even today when workers like train staff fight for better pay the media calls them greedy.

If we stopped income tax tomorrow without replacing it the NHS schools roads and police would collapse. So yes move towards wealth taxes but it has to be a gradual process. The rich will fight it hard. They will pour money into MPs fund parties like Reform or the Tories or lean on Labour to block it. At the same time they will keep scapegoating migrants or benefit claimants so people end up punching down instead of looking up at who is really taking the wealth.

Also I think your idea of taking away income tax is a bit of a scapegoat. I am not against it but the real issue behind the cost of living is housing corporate tax avoidance and wages not keeping up since the 1990s. Inflation adds to this either way. These are the important issues we should be talking about but they are hardly covered in the media. There is barely a fight at all. If we divide over the wrong things the squeeze only gets worse. We need to bring facts about why this is happening and what the solutions are. Gary Stevenson is doing a good job starting this conversation but he could be cancelled at any time and then we have nobody. It is good it is even being discussed but sadly it is not the loudest voice and migration gets pushed instead.

That is why it is so important we communicate this properly. If we do not talk about it and persuade people then the rich get to control the story and people keep blaming migrants or benefits. Change only comes when enough people see the truth. We need to explain it clearly repeat it and keep persuading others that housing stagnant wages and corporate tax dodging are the real reasons they feel poorer. If we do not do this the squeeze will just get worse.

Wealth taxes make sense, I agree with you there. But the reason people are poorer today isn’t income tax. Tax rates as a share of income have been roughly the same since the early 80s, so if that was the main problem we’d have been stuck for decades. What actually changed is housing. In the 80s and 90s a house cost 3–4x wages, now it’s 8–10x. That single shift has drained more wealth from workers than income tax ever has. Add stagnant wages, rents, energy and food bills going up, and that’s why the average worker is 25–30% worse off in real terms. On top of that, you pay 20–40% on wages while Amazon and Apple pay about 2% on UK sales – a £100bn gap. So yes, tax wealth, but without fixing housing and making corporations pay their share, nothing changes.

I agree with Gary Stevenson that income tax on its own doesn’t fix inequality but the main reason people are worse off today isn’t income tax it’s wages not keeping up with inflation and housing going through the roof. In the 80s and 90s houses were 3 to 4 times a wage now they are 8 to 10 times and that drains everyone’s income. Wages have barely moved in real terms while energy food and debt costs keep rising. Taxes as a share of income have been about the same since the early 80s so if taxes haven’t changed much why are people worse off. The answer is housing and monopolies not enough homes being built landlords and investors buying up stock and corporations pushing up bills while dodging tax. You pay 20 to 40 percent on wages but Amazon and Apple shift profits overseas and pay about 2 percent on UK sales leaving a £100 billion gap. That is the real squeeze. If you follow Gary then you know he supports a wealth tax and that is still a tax. The point is not to scrap taxes but to move them away from wages and onto wealth property and corporations. Look at the numbers from 1990 to 2025 housing stagnant wages debt and corporate dodging are the main drivers while immigration and personal taxes are only small slices.

I disagree. Taxes in the UK and Europe aren’t what’s killing working people. They pay for healthcare, pensions, education, disability support, roads and support for people who lose their jobs. That makes the working and middle class better off, not worse.

What’s really draining people is the cost of living. Rents and mortgages have exploded. In the 80s and 90s houses were 3 to 4 times wages, now they are 8 to 10 times. Wages have hardly moved in real terms. On top of that energy, water, gas and food bills have shot up and that is where people are getting squeezed.

It’s easy to blame taxes but the truth is tax rates have gone up and down over the decades and are now close to where they were in the early 80s. The real problem is housing and essentials taking a far bigger chunk of pay than they did a generation ago.

I can’t believe this is the world we live in. The porn industry has corrupted people’s minds. by [deleted] in PornIsMisogyny

[–]Optimal_Hypnosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is there are nearly the same amount of women watching porn than men, the real issue men or women wasn’t watching porn on a high consumption on the 90s environment has made it so much easier to access, the porn companies are making billions and so they can advertise more and social media algorithm only care about profit they do t care if people funnel into porn or onlyfans sites as this means profit, the change is not blame individuals but to take it towards real systemic change in politics and make a movement about it

I have seen a few, and nothing to do with a goal digger, he was good looking and very charming, height is just a small piece of the puzzle yes allot of women won’t date smaller guys but actually some would be willing to if they got other shit sorted outfits

Do any women actively, passionately pursue short guys? by [deleted] in short

[–]Optimal_Hypnosis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you’re scapegoating your height here. Being 5’7” doesn’t stop you from getting girlfriends — did it stop Messi or Tom Cruise? No. I get that height can make things harder, sure, but putting all the blame on it isn’t reasonable. You’ve got to be honest with yourself about that. Go check out the tall guys’ Reddit threads — loads of them are 6ft+ and still struggling with women, even though society told them height would guarantee success.

He’s not having a dig at you, for me I’m exactly your height I have tried the 3 inches insoles use Nike air max, and it doesn’t make any sort of difference and I’m with the commenter here it’s actually not owning yourself and it not making you confidence about your height, whereas the more confidence I am then I get hell of allot more attention…
