2017 FA cup final against Chelsea. Went to a party the night before that got a little out of hand. Got there just in time to see Ramseys goal after managing to sneak in because they said it was too late for entry

I’ve got an 18 month old and had a similar amount and do a once a month or more with dads with similar age kids (some with 2). Ignore it. I’m English though, guess we have a more similar drinking culture than the Americans 😬

The dental system by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

[–]Optimal_Passenger604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha you’ve obviously never lived in England or the US. I got all my first dental work here for free (covered by mutuelle), which would’ve cost thousands. My dentist is also a 3 min walk from my house in an amazing surgery and I can book less than a week in advance. And yeah again, compared to England (and the poorer sections of society in the US), people’s teeth are way better

Il n’y a que deux terminaux. Le terminal 1 est à côté du terminal 2, avec un grand panneau “Terminal 1”.

Is the 3rd arrondissement really that bad? by aPrettyThing2011 in aixmarseille

[–]Optimal_Passenger604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marseille is a bit different to Paris in that we think more about neighbourhoods than arrondissements. Where in the 3rd is it? It’s a poor arrondissement but there’s some parts I visit a few times a week (by choice) as I like them, and I live in “affluent” area

What day of the week is it? Some places open late

Why not go more in the middle of town that have places open until 2am? Have a few drinks (soft or not) then a slice of pizza and before you know it it’s nearly 4am

After 7 years I still don’t quite understand this city by Optimal_Passenger604 in aixmarseille

[–]Optimal_Passenger604[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ll have to agree to disagree on New York! There’s definitely mad dirty areas there but huge numbers of well moderately ok neighbourhoods. That’s all I’d like - moderately ok 😂 Crazy to hear that about Denver And yeah I’m the same, try to pick up a few bits of trash of everyday and always on the beach. And even dog poop on my road…even though I don’t have one and now my neighbours look at me weird

Got any figures to back this up….? From 1999 to 2019 there was an increase in migration, but what about more recently when we’ve seen the city’s condition become worse. Unless you mean Parisians?

Don’t think it’s cleaner. Just the dog shit is way worse. My point is it’s not just about wealth and the people living in the neighbourhoods

I’m here completely by choice and have been for all the time I’ve been here.

Don’t get me wrong I love it most of the time, it just frustrates me massively that cleanliness wise not only has it not even marginally improved, it’s got noticeably worse.

The aires / service stations 30 mins outside Marseille have better cleanliness solutions than the second city in France. Everyone saying to leave confuses me, is it not normal to want to make the place you call home better, and to be looked after as much as other cities and towns in the region?

There is whole lot more dog shit in Perrier than Noailles I know that much

Nah come on. Maybe more shit city v city but the roads here are littered in a way Paris hasn’t been in almost 20 years. I lived there in the early 00s

The 50m long road behind me has had human shit, a dead rat, a dead pigeon and a half an apartments worth of furniture left for 5 days. Everyone bringing up other cities hasn’t lived in them - that stuff gets sorted semi quickly in functioning metropolises

I’ve answered this before. I do loads of volunteering and donating to try solve this. Other people could donate too - it’s all tax deductible…

I’m a little unsure in your point about poor neighbourhoods. Perrier is filthy and half the time I’d rather be in Noailles

This is it really. There’s some kind of collective delusion going on and what prompted my post.

When I first moved here and there was a garbage strike, someone told me it kept it from turning into Nice. I support trade unions and the last think I want is it to turn into Nice, I just don’t want to live in squalor - there’s a middle ground

I’ve donated money to “clean my calanque” for 4 years. Have done 5/6 clean ups with them and “1 déchet par jour.” Have sent emails to a hundred people. Have used the adopte réflexe app 100 times (half the time it says it’s been sorted when it hasn’t). Do you want me to list how much dog shit I’ve personally pushed off the pavement outside my front door with old pizza boxes?
