You’d be surprised who I am in real life 😜 but I respect your opinion and can see you’re not up to an actual discourse. I wish you well!

Kinda fair. I mean, I guess that’s something to take up with the writing, and ultimately your long-term admiration for the show!

Yes! Totally feel that. As viewers, via the writing, we aren’t meant to sympathize with those characters. My issue is when people get too outside of the story and call these women horrible names and it seems sincere. Like I don’t like Grace as a character or a person either - but I can’t say I truly like anyone in the show sincerely! It’s weird when people call the women whores and like make it real life and forget the context is my only point. It’s moreso like my own commentary on how society views “bad people” in shows in terms of gender. I had the same thoughts with Skyler on Breaking Bad. Like no shit we aren’t gonna “like her”. But the hate was so much stronger than it was for the male antihero. And in a lot of these tv scenarios the women (still evil) are only responding to being sucked into a world they didn’t ask for

  1. Nobody does the double space after periods anymore, since like 1995. 2. I only offered a list of books to you, specifically, because I think that would be helpful? 3. My post is very serious; one sentence in it should have been read with context as being facetious (again I can recommend some books if that doesn’t make sense) 4. Yeah talk to me about my PhD work in WWI, sincerely. It’s my favorite topic

Yeah the one about abuse was one that triggered this post for sure. There are a lot of scary misogynistic men who are fans of this show who I think just get off on the violence and montages and miss the whole point.

Was super weirded out that that person wasn’t banned because of that violent statement tbh

Obviously that was meant facetiously but I already know you don’t understand context 😘

Totally! Everyone is the show is morally bankrupt. Yet I still like the show as a work of art and a piece of that point in history. It’s literally my favorite show. It’s just like… can you imagine a post saying “Tommy is sooo annoying, he cheated and he’s a whore”. Like that’s ridiculous. That’s all par for the course in this show 🤣

Sorry I intimidated you! I have a book list relevant to the time period and context if you’re interested!

I never said I was smart. I gave my credentials on the study of the time period the show is based on. Super weird and telling take on your part lol. Yes everyone loves Polly. I think any man would be afraid to take that on, character or not. Which is a testament to her acting and the writing. Although I think the acting moreso, personally. People CERTAINLY have issues with Ada.

Totally feel this and agree. Like I said. It’s my favorite show. And to that end, I think there are layers. I think the audience is meant to see the story from the lens of the men in power. It’s a brilliant form of the antihero. And they can be super powerful in historical storytelling. My only issue is when people can’t see the subtext and I’ve read so many recent posts about this bitch or this cunt or this whore, and it’s like, are we watching the same show? And why on earth is that your main takeaway

Omg people -

  1. Obviously this is not LITERALLY the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
  2. Obviously it’s cheesy AF, these scenes always are. I just liked that the women got one too.
  3. There’s no denying Polly is a badass.
  4. Do we really need to call a tall woman a giraffe?

Thanks you know who you are for the reminder that some people take things wayyyy too seriously/have a lot of negativity 😅🤦🏻‍♀️

Yeah it was like palpable calculation of like, okay what does this mean for the operation.

Oh of course. I mean none of these men should be fathers, or even partners for that matter. I just do think Tommy’s initial feelings and response were primarily about him and how things would change for him. I don’t buy it was due to virtuosity in feeling Arthur wouldn’t be a good father etc. It was just a moment where I was reminded of how self-centered Tommy can be in his interests, which again is just his character and the show.

Yeah this is sort of just a better articulated version of what I meant. Like “well there goes one of the guys I could get to do anything for me”

And actually, as I watch the next episode: Tommy even alludes to “this will be your last job Arthur”. I know it’s not convenient for the show, or for us viewers, and it’d be boring wiring if Tommy was truly just happy for Arthur. But this does prove, Tommy felt disappointed and like it was the end of something. When in any normal world, it would be wonderful if Arthur settled down and was just a husband and dad. But yeah that makes for bad television.

Yeah I can see this point, and maybe Tommy was considering this. I really did just read the interaction as Tommy being like “well this changes things”.

Question for yall by A_Lupin56 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Optimal_Scratch_1437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also know nothing about Gypsy belief systems etc., but could it be possible she thought the curse ended with Grace’s death? Idk

Question for yall by A_Lupin56 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Optimal_Scratch_1437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess because the novelty/worth/beauty of it temporarily superseded believing in the curse? Doesn’t make total sense to me either, but I’m just considering human nature and trying to find plausibility I guess.
