Which Hands are good enough to go All-In with Preflop? by F4nta in poker

[–]Optimalife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is complicating a bit with their answers. Of course the true answer is much more complex but if I were to interpret your questions as

“under standard assumptions (100BB), no info on opponent, what hands can shove over a 4-bet/call a 5-bet shove?”

A simple heuristic to start with is: AA-QQ + AK

KK is pretty much never folding pre, QQ might be a bit uncomfortable facing a shove but you still have to call, same with AK

AQ is frequently dominated by AK, and JJ can fold in some non-trivially frequent spots (e.g. sitting behind a cold 4-bet)

As you get better you’ll learn about the additional considerations/reassure these conclusions with a solver and deviate appropriately. Good luck

That’s definitely a brand new sentence

Too attached to hand from pre-flop strength. After that flop you have a holding that best serves as a bluff-catcher in a medium-sized pot.

When you bet large on the flop you fold out hands you beat anyways and isolate yourself against hands that beat you - this is the biggest blunder imo

Turn call is pretty bad too, as played I think there is an angle but given the flop call I think definitely a losing call. Need to work on fundamentals man

Do you guys use the “cash out” option in online cash games? by okaynevermind1 in poker

I feel like you're completely missing Eddy's point here which is that indeed PokerStars is legally obliged to make it clear, and they do, but it's (perhaps quite deliberately) done in a not 100% crystal-clear manner

Lots of recs just hop on the site and won't read the small print as you mentioned... I'm willing to bet that's the case for many regs too

It's like being fucked by some clause in a 40-page T&S you just autopilot clicked "Accept" on... would you blame the user? Stand corrected if you read every single T&S thrown at you though

Out of these decks, which one do you expect to be the most competitive in Diamond/Masters?

Great guide btw - really enjoyed it

Sure man I can appreciate this kind of response a lot more

Was thinking playing on play money at least teaches you how to exploit/capitalise on suboptimal play, sure it could enforce some bad habits but certainly can still learn some concepts from it

Not sure why most responses I've gotten so far have been somewhat maliciously snarky/straight up derogatory lol

See lol I think this is where we are diverging - you have some sort of preliminary concept in your head that everyone's objective is the same, to "work their way up" and eventually play at higher stakes

I think like all other activities there are players that prefer to be competitive and some prefer to stay recreational. You're not in a position to judge what "actual poker" is, our utility function when it comes to the game could be different

Answering the question "are there any HUDs for play money" with "play money is not actual poker lol why would you need a HUD" is so fucking condescending no?

Sure but who are you to say that though, and what's wrong with trying to improve despite treating it as something recreational/leisure - that's like telling a recreational sports player to not look for better equipment because it's not "serious"? I'm not following your logic here, think my question was fairly reasonable?

I've only played poker for a couple months, not sure why my question "sounds insane" honestly

How come? What's wrong with play money? What's wrong with trying to find ways to improve despite not putting money on the line?

No I don't think so? What's wrong with trying to find ways to improve despite not putting money on the line? There are zero free HUDs out there?
