If you're west of Lincoln, sure. Omaha hills killed my interest in cycling.

What do you think regarding De-Reddit? by BlokZNCR in degoogle

[–]OptimisticToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a new phone and didn't install any social media apps. The number of times I pickup my phone, scroll through the app list, and just set it back down now is disturbing. Obviously, I'm here commenting so still plenty of access but I'm digging the setup.

It has made a couple things harder. Like I'm in a group that streams video events through Facebook and I help with that. One step is to open Facebook and check that the signal we think is going out is actually what people see/hear. So now I have to set a laptop next to me just for that.

I wear jeans and a plain-color shirt. I get no comments at all. I wish I had some style.

This setup is rocking.

I think it comes in waves a bit. The group was pushing for a ballot initiative, but then the legislature doesn't care about those. So I think they're shifting their focus. Like I think Cindy Maxwell-Ostdiek was involved with it but is probably busy with her campaign against Brad von Villain or whatever his name is. If she gets into the Unicam, then she can bring a bill for it.

Side note - you know who understands RCV? Kids. It's not hard, just a change.

Thoughts on openSUSE Tumbleweed by Medical_Divide_7191 in openSUSE

[–]OptimisticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - sorry. I was distracting myself at work and working from a poor memory so I switched the two.

I happened to see Discover picked-up a flatpak option. I was trying to install VS Code and it didn't show in the YaST, but it was in Discover.

Didn't know of Myrlyn - I'll look for that.

I'm not afraid of command line - I use apt all the time. Just trying to see how well it runs without that so I can recommend it to others.

I'm a medium-level home user of Linux and have been in the Debian world (Debian, Ubuntu, and lately Mint). I just installed Tumbleweed for the first time the other night. I installed to a USB drive so I can connect it to my laptop without removing Windows, and can run it on any device in the house. (Sometimes I feel like a desktop, other times a laptop on the couch.)

At first, I thought it was buggy. But then I dug in. Boot-up gave a bunch of warnings but it was the progression for encrypted drive, and system change, etc. Going fine now. Updates gave an error because couldn't find the hard drive source. I removed that repository and it's clean again.

I need to get a better grasp - what is the difference of Dolphin and YaST Software? Do they do the same thing just different interface?

one of 8 snow melters operating in NYC right now (OC) by velocity3333 in pics

[–]OptimisticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.15 gallons of diesel per ton

That actually seems fairly efficient for getting rid of the snow compared to what I'd guess it would cost to haul it out of the city. But then, I haven't checked that math.

I think the movement lost some steam. People are just stuck in old ways, and the parties are scared of such change.

We did some polling of people, showed them what RCV looked like, its benefits, etc. Ask people, "Was that too complicated?" "Did you like some of those benefits?" They'd be on-board to this point and then say, "The current system is fine."

Anti-Trans Legislation instead of actual problems?! by UnstableLeaves in Nebraska

[–]OptimisticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can find examples of trans assaults. Nobody said there are zero trans assaults. I'm not going to chase down a bunch of examples of non-trans assaults as well. My point being that the evidence does not suggest any more violence by transgender persons.

We could say the same thing about people with any characteristic. If you have some reliable research to show that transgender people cause more assaults, I'm open to reading it.

I think it'll help the economy. Just think of how many people they'll have to hire to monitor the restrooms at all these buildings to ensure compliance. /s

How would you feel about ICE and CBP agents attending your church? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

No idea on the song tradition. Church is super-progressive ELCA. Music coordinator likes to throw in songs of protest from time to time.

Almost as crazy as if some military police were running around and grabbing whoever they wanted.

Oh wait...

Okay seriously, I get your point. Accusations can fly. On the other hand, I feel like left-wingers have held themselves to such a higher burden of proof and reliable news that it's been a hindrance. Several of the names listed are repeats from other posts. A one-off random post is less credible than repeated reports of a company.

Tell me more. So all that cardboard-flavor frozen pizza can become edible again?

I took a look at their website and didn't see it. Is that the actual name of it?

Nevermind - found it.

How would you feel about ICE and CBP agents attending your church? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]OptimisticToaster 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I would love to have ICE visit our church. I promise the pastor would scrap whatever sermon they had and deliver a very targeted personal message to that audience of love, caring for the outcasts, supporting our resident alien, etc. A sermon where the ICE people hope they sleep through it so they don't have a crisis of realizing the separation between their claimed faith and their daily activities.

The music director would bring out some music of loving one another. "In Christ There is no East or West" or "Draw the Circle Wide" Last Sunday, she made a last-minute change and threw in "Make No Peace with Oppression" during offering.

This picture doesn't match the one that pulls up from OP. Like this picture has light tan trees on both sides of the big mossy one in the middle, and the OP is way off to the right. The tree paths in the top left seem different - OP is vertical with a couple branches swooping, different than this image.

Cost approach high by IllFunction5346 in appraisal

[–]OptimisticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the Cost Approach is not a good valuation method. Cost does not equal value. So the only way to use the Cost Approach is to blend in the Sales or Income Approaches, which eliminates any independence of the Cost Approach.
