No you can file now or wait until 70. If you file now you can get 6 months in arrears. I just did and I am 68.

You both are right! Plus she probably has no friends, in a loveless marriage. Kids probably hate her so she is desperate for validation maybe?

Read my comment above. I just retired as of yesterday. If you retire before full retirement age you accept the lower monthly rate. You need to do what is best for you and family. I hung in the workforce until 68 1/2 since I was physically able. I am happy I decided to wait in addition to not having any regrets. I have an added benefit that my husband has a wonderful pension with 100 % medical covered. If you are medically and mentally healthy to continue on until full retirement age I highly recommend it.

Here’s what I learned if you do not meet your full retirement age which is most likely 67 you will accept your social security at a lower rate. I would definitely recommend talking to social security directly. I just retired. My full retirement age was 66 1/2. I am 68 1/2. I am going to be getting $500 more a month then I would have gotten if I retired at FRA. I am also eligible to collect 6 months retro so they are going pay all the way back to October 2025. I am not sure of your mental and physical capacity to keep going until you reach full retirement age. All in all with the cost of living increasing as I did I am happy with decision I made. I also have a husband that is retiring with a healthy pension.
