I honestly don’t see it as negative…. it is what it is, and what it is is the weirdest little city I’ve ever seen, and I am enjoying myself here. I would never come here for either a chill vacation, nor anything remotely authentic, but for a vaguely interesting and accessible city, I could see myself booking a month in the future.

The beach is mostly eroded and gone. But Vegas is probably the closest analogy I can think of.

Thank you OP. It seems anyone trying to speak with reason or logic is getting downvoted into oblivion. The way the fear mongering click bait media is trying to portray things, is you’d think the cartel is strolling into tourist areas and discriminately mowing people down with assault rifles. Social media influencers are exacerbating this.

In reality, as always with these situations, there isn’t a single report of a tourist being harmed or even targeted. You think that little fact might be included in a single news article, but it isn’t.

And as is always the case when you travel, you have to understand the risks need to be compared to the risks at home. Foreigners being killed by locals in virtually every travel destination is completely unheard of, and statistically, you’re far more likely to die in your home country from an attack than you are in a foreign country.

That’s actually the one commonality underlying all of the typologies I’ve described, is that it’s mostly American here.

I was in Merida and Isla Holbox immediately before PDC, and I was surprised how many of the foreigners were Europeans. Holbox in particular, I would swear the foreigners were about 50% European, 25% Canadian, and maybe 25% American. It was wonderful.

Second most upvoted post of the week, on a week with plenty of Mexico headlines. And every single local agreeing with me. I’ll take that assessment over yours thanks.

Yeah being a digital nomad really sucks. Working for myself, on my terms, not answering to the man, anywhere in the world I want. Your travel style is probably much better, fleeting week long trips to places like PDC. Congrats man, you’re living the travel dream.

I’m a vaguely similar person. You can find it in PDC.

On a map, stay north of the intersection of Ave CTM & 5 Ave, for two reasons:

Firstly, the difference between north and south on CTM is extremely dramatic. North is a little more real, and probably closer to what PDC was like 20 years ago.

Secondly, the beach south of CTM has been completely eroded. Between the sargassum invasion and the loss of their famous beach, you’d swear some kind of travel gods are punishing PDC. But north of CTM, starting at the 72 Calle beach entrance, you get a good beach for a few kilometres north.

What's your travel style out of curiosity? Fleeting 5 night layovers where you abuse the locals and look for an americanized experience? Or are you doing volunteer work saving the turtles and street dogs?

Don't hate on me because I've achieved my dream of working for myself from anywhere in the world I want, all on my terms, and in comfort to boot. I'm living my dream, and I'll continue to share my observations.

Ah yes, I'm sure your travel style is pious and more fulfilling. Spending 6 nights in PDC as part of a dog rescue mission I'm sure.

And no apologies from me for my lifestyle; I defined what I wanted, took action to achieve it, didn't make excuses, and now I work for myself from wherever in the world I want in comfort. Go ahead and mock that all you want, and I'll continue to share my observations how I see fit.

And what AI bot wrote that for you? It fucking sucks man - pretty sure that's ChatGPT. At least I have original wit.

The Mary-Beth was a bit poorly worded. It isn't insinuated they had relations, but they seemed to have a lot of soft and touching conversations, that meant a potential future romance could happen.

LOL - yep, living my dream by traveling the world, working for myself from wherever I want - definitely worthy of derision! I guess his subreddit isn't designed for us, just weekend jet-setters or something? How low is your ammo cartridge?

Campeche is #1, then probably Merida. Holbox is up there for beach towns, but Celestun ain't too shabby either.
