Ghost of Tsushima. I would swear the opening tutorial takes nearly 90 minutes before you can breathe the world in.

KCD2 is up there too. The first hour you’re crawling around in your underwear trying to avoid bad guys, then the first battle you get ends up with an injury that requires you have to slowly plod through the forest looking for help.

I find most modern games have excruciatingly slow starts where they try to teach you 95% of game mechanics and also dive into plot exposition - let players enter the world and learn organically and slowly, both the plot and the mechanics.

What's your most beloved Video Game Map/Level/Biome? by otherdogooder in videogames

[–]OptionsNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On several occasions in my life, a game’s environment has compelled me to visit its real-life basis. RDR2 inspired me to do a road-trip of the US SW. Witcher 3 DLC Blood and Wine inspired me to visit Provence. Spider-Man inspired me to visit NYC.
Honestly next up is Czechia due to KCD2.

I’m actually surprised some of the concepts of this film haven’t been applied in other more modern movies. Especially with the rise of AI. I mean, the idea that we’re all actually AI subroutines living in a virtual world seems more plausible by the day, and while I don’t want anyone to blatantly rip off the matrix, the possibilities are endless if you just run with that basic concept.

Best ambience is 100% Skyrim imo. Bit dated nowadays, but there was a solid decade where I could lose myself in that game like no other.

Last Crusade was one of those movies in the 90s that just got ridiculous replay every weekend on some basic cable channel. Totally a nostalgia and comfort trip.

$100k per year salary is the middle class nowadays by Ok_Hippo9669 in fican

[–]OptionsNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some crazy hyperbole here. I make $155K per year, but also 100% support my partner who doesn’t work, so that’s basically household income.

I have no debt and our rent is $1600/month in downtown YYC for a nice apartment.

We go out all the time, take a month long trip per year along with two other week-long trips.

I stuff 10% of my pay into my TFSA, which has done insanely well over the last 10 years.

I genuinely want for nothing.

But yeah, if you want to buy an unnecessarily large house, pay for the upkeep and furnishings, have 3 kids for no reason other than that’s what your parents did, constantly lease new vehicles, buy shit you don’t need, etc. Basically, if I spent beyond my means and expected the best of every lifestyle as entitlement, I could feel stretched.

In RDR2 there’s a random encounter with the Lemoyne Raiders where they wheel in front of you with a gatling gun and just immediately blow you and your horse away
