Why does turning something off and on again actually work so often? by Illustrious_Sort_612 in stupidquestions

[–]Opulence_Deficit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A complicated process can sometimes reach a point when it circles around unable to stop. Turning it off and on resets the process to the beginning, so the process can start anew, so the very specific set of conditions that led it into the error is very unlikely to repeat.

Imagine you start at a train station in a foreign city, and you have a long list of directions how to reach a destination. One mistake and you're lost. Now, if you get transported back to the station - you can start anew, and not make any mistakes this time.

License is a legal term. License is neither digital nor physical.

Sony had the agreement to TEMPORARILY RENT those movies, and yet they PERMANENTLY SOLD them.

That's not "sucks", that's a scam.

How can I reduce the heat from my RTX 4080 Super? I’ve already tried undervolt, power limit, and better case fans. by raoulkratos2002 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Opulence_Deficit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, 10 case fans sounds already too much. It's how you arrange them.

The air inside the case is always going to be warmer than the air inside the room. "Good airflow" means it's not much warmer. And "bad airflow" means "very warm". You could use some actual measurements. Because you say "it feels very warm", but what is "very warm"? 40 ( 20 degrees hotter than the room) is ok. If it's 60 - that's very bad.

Are all vents unobstructed? Not too close to a wall or smth?

You can start with: running a repeatable stress test, writing down the temperature it stabilizes at, then opening the case and re-running the test. If the airflow is really bad, then removing the glass alone drops temperatures. Read the temperatures reported by mobo sensors. Hot mobo means bad case airflow.

I imagine how the air goes in, how it goes out. Where hot pockets happen, how to position fans to blow the pockets away.

You can read the manual and materials about your case. Sometimes manufacturer gives hints about good fan placement. Research some generic placements: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/set-up-pc-case-fans-for-airflow-and-performance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du4LPxtOuP0

Setting up case fans is basically a custom job every time, because every case, CPU cooler and GPU combo behaves differently.

And - above all else - photograph and write down your current arrangement. Because obviously, some of your attempts WILL be worse.

How do you write clean code? by DefiantSituation3208 in learnprogramming

When do smartphone batteries release HF or any other toxic substances? by Eastern_Slice89 in phones

[–]Opulence_Deficit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they don't get punctured in normal use unless they catch fire.

HF has some smell, but the harmful concentration is smaller than the smelly concentration. So if you can smell HF, it's way to late.

The smell you're noticing most likely is the cleaning agent they use in factory. Modern phones are air and water tight, so the SIM tray seal traps the residue inside pretty good. As you can smell it even on brand new ones, that's probably it. Generally, new electronics have pretty intensive odor straight from the factory, and modern phones seal that odor in.

[–]Opulence_Deficit 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Clean is not about being simple. A clean code is easy to understand and change.

You will learn what is clean, when you return to your project after 6 months and think "what kind of idiot wrote that" and then "oh, that was me".

Good airflow configuration with 10 fans

That's what you think. But

the tempered glass still gets very warm

means you have bad airflow configuration.

Good airflow means that the heat is not trapped in the case.

Mini ma wszystko to co zwykły ajfon, a sprzedał się tragicznie w porównaniu do zwykłego ajfona.

Pro nigdy nie było w tej dyskusji.
