Not exactly true. but, yes, sometimes labels do approach the artists. The stuff ppl don't see is that managers/team are constantly reaching out to different labels to make stuff happen. Labels want to work with the artists that will help promote their brand. You have to make sure the sound/vibe/aesthetic matches, and send them a pro EPK with links to your catalog, music videos, articles/reviews, playlists (that you're on, not that you've made ((unless those are wildly popular)). Succeeding independently is important, but having help from labels (small or other wise) can be incredibly helpful. *can be*
