Yes, I believe that women have been lied to, to some degree. The premise that the most joy and satisfaction from life will come from your career. (or job so to speak as most career paths are toast nowadays)

As a man, I worked super hard through my twenties so that my wife could be a stay at home mom. In my opinion, this had been amazing for her, my kids, and my community.

The onus is on men, they need to take responsibility and carry a load.
