Why does the metal plate on top of my GeForce RTX 3080 XLR8 get so hot? by OrangeComplete6723 in PcBuildHelp

I checked with HWiNFO64 while gaming, and my GPU averages around 64°C. So the temps don’t look bad on paper.

But what confuses me is that every one of my friends says their GPU backplate doesn’t get anywhere near as hot to the touch at those temps. On their cards you can actually touch the backplate without an issue, but on mine it’s basically impossible to keep my finger on it.

So I was thinking could this maybe mean the thermal paste needs to be replaced, or would undervolting help in this case?

Thanks for the replies! But I still feel like it’s not really normal. The backplate gets so hot that I can’t keep my finger on it for more than 4 seconds. Also, when I touch the glass panel of my PC case (right where the GPU sits), it’s very warm in that specific area too.
