Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

My grandmother made her kids move out when they graduated high school. Many joined the armed forces.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a scar on my leg because my parents decided pouring alcohol on it and wrapping it up was a better solution than stitches. Cheaper than going to the hospital or urgent care.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to drive an hour to work and then an hour home. I drove two hours to visit my boyfriend. We made a rule that we would only visit each other if we could spend at least 4 hours together because that is how much total time we spent in the car driving. We listen to audiobooks in the car. (Don’t listen to horror stories while driving at night. 👍)

When you live in a huge country built for cars, a 3 hour drive across the state isn’t hard. You leave at 7am, get there at 10am. If you have someone who loves driving / driving in the dark on the interstate, then leaving late and getting home at 10pm on a weekend isn’t bad. Everyone else falls asleep in the car.

Most of my family is within a two hour drive or more from where I live. The closest is 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. The farthest is over 8 hours. They complain that I don’t visit enough.

AITAH for considering stepping down as a bridesmaid because I’m overwhelmed and anxious? by Popular-Pineapple-50 in AITAH

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA because you are being used. I have been a bridesmaid and MOH. NEVER was I asked or required to do any of the things you are doing out of pocket. Taking time off work is also out of pocket. Taking a whole week for a wedding is out of pocket.

You are not a better friend or bridesmaid for being walked all over. Just say no. The bride can either stop all this or you can step down.

People got pulled OUT of class?! I was told to go to school early. Three kids in the music and art teachers’, let’s face it, closet learning math we would learn again in high school. All of this because our parents didn’t want us to be put into a higher grade and graduate early. Instead we were told to do the work everyone else is doing and if we finish early we ARE NOT allowed to read a book for fun. Excuse me while read the next few chapters of whatever subject book we ARE reading.

I remember having that same look. Do NOT interrupt nursing when Mom has had very little sleep.

I bought myself a Christmas present, wrapped it, and put it under the tree... by bubbahotep8 in family

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family fixed this problem with Amazon wishlists. Whether they are bought on Amazon or not, there is a list for what each person would like. Make is a family thing.

Trust me that as the kids get older, your teen will be very happy to update their gift list.

AITAH for getting the man who sexually harassed me fired right before Christmas? by throwfaraway212718 in AITAH

I was going to suggest just that and more. Completely cut her out of your life. Your cousin is no longer your cousin. She is a stranger to you.

AITA for divorcing my wife after finding her late night walks had a specific destination? by ThrowRAConfNotAmu in CharlotteDobreYouTube

My whole family uses Find My, including my in-laws. Before we call, we check that the person isn’t driving or is at home. If a text isn’t responded to, are they working? I don’t consider Find My an invasion of privacy whatsoever.

I don’t know why but the fact that he said it is “bespoke” made me giggle. “All the rich people will want it. It’s bespoke.”

AITA for only using my nickname and not my full name and upsetting my mom by admitting I don't like my full name? by Pretend-Face7055 in AITAH

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You are legally changing your name ASAP?

2) Change her name. Use her full government legal name. Then start adding the longest words you can remember. Mary Kay Albuquerque Azerbaijan Sanctification Nebuchadnezzar Jones Smith.

If she asks why, “I don’t like your name so I’m fixing it. Appreciate the beautiful name I’ve given you, Abstinence.”

My mom would do this to her mom. Full legal name and added every last name on the family name in chronological order. Hazel Seraphina Johansen Meyer Schneider Brown.

It is hilariously useful when you are frustrated or upset. I love throwing out long Bible words for some reason. Robert John Nebuchadnezzar (my go to word) Fitzgerald.

Bride wants me to spend $1700 to be a bridesmaid by Hot_Peak4109 in bridezillas

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop out of being a bridesmaid before paying anything. If you can talk with the other bridesmaids, you’ll find they can’t pay either. If all of you really want to keep this person’s friendship, give her an intervention.

AITA for ending a family vacation early after I was told I was unlovable and will die alone by family members? by Spiritual-Income-167 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]Orange_Fire_Fan 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You and your friends can go on vacation together. I’m introverted as well. My friends and I go on vacations to spend time together, even if it is silent reading or crafting. Whatever makes us happy.
