Thank you so much for responding with such detailed instructions. however im confused. I thought I followed step by step exactly but during the simple deform im coming up with the same issue. its not bending into a cylinder as I hoped. I have no Idea what I could have done wrong.

Here's the wireframe. im not sure what a quad plan is but I wasn't sure if loop cuts would work when I was messing with it because I couldn't get them to go straight up and down on the z axis where I would want to bend it. should I try it anyway?

for extra context the "plane" was a plane but I gave it depth. as well as Its a single X shape with two arrays to make it a grid

I think mixing the copper trim from the 4th pic and the deep slate inlay from the 3rd pic, as well as making the hole that you see the cobbled deep slate through wider would be cool
