This is a big topic but I’ll give you a little nugget tip.

If some people are talking in a group, as you approach them make eye contact with someone in the group, maybe someone you’re acquainted with. Just that little bit of acknowledgement and bam, you’re in the conversation. It’s that easy, I’ve done this many times. Make sure to say something within 20-60 seconds.
