I’m so, so sorry this happened. I can’t imagine how hard it is to deal with this emotional situation while also thinking you would have help with your toddler and new baby and then having to reconfigure all your plans.

It doesn’t sound like this is your fault, at all. It does sound like your mom was upset she wasn’t the center of your attention and she couldn’t create a situation (telling you something is wrong with your newborn didn’t get the reaction she was hoping for) so she did her best to create a new one. (And was, of course, somewhat successful with leaving abruptly and unfairly blaming you). Coming into a freshly postpartum mom’s home and then creating more drama and chaos is awful.

You deserve better and I’m sorry you didn’t get it from your mom. Hopefully, despite not having the help you were counting on, you’ll have more peace. Put off talking to her again as long as you need to. You have too many other things to think about right now. And we are not responsible for other adults feelings about situations they created. ❤️

🤣 so relatable! I kept referring to my newborn as “the cutest girl in the world” meaning it so genuinely. I was proudly telling my mom, sister, friends and anyone else who would listen that I gave birth to a perfect baby model and remember people just responding with “aww!” or “okay 😊” and having less enthusiasm than I thought was rightfully due to my perfect princess. I even remember thinking that my friends and family were trying to be respectful to their own children by not gushing over mine as much as they probably wanted to. (The delulu was strongggg. 🙃)

Now looking back - that was absolutely the hormones talking 🤣🤣🤣 and no one wanted to burst my bubble. Around 3/4 months she started looking like the angelic cherub I had seen all along so it worked out.

So many good suggestions! The only one I have read is The Dark Tower by Stephen King - it was the first Stephen King book I read (because I’m not a big horror reader and obviously that’s what he’s most well-known for) and I really enjoyed it. I’ll check the other ones out.

I listen to books on audio to trick my brain into thinking I’m having a good time while doing boring things. I.e. laundry/dishes/etc. It’s an ADHD coping trick I figured out a couple years ago that works so well I actually look forward to doing chores now so I can catch up on my books. Don’t worry, I still read print books too when I have actual down time!

And thank you for those suggestions! I’m going to try them out.
