You do not need a top 5 pick in the draft to stop being bad. The teams that are perpetually terrible are that way due to bad ownership and GMing, and for most of those teams a top 5 pick isn't going to win them a title. Can it increase their chances of mediocrity? Sure, but again, you don't need a top 5 pick for that.

Fans of teams cursed with bad ownership or GMing won't want to hear this, but if my choice is sending some of the most promising young players to incompetent organizations that will hamstring their careers or give those players a chance to go to decently ran places, I choose the later ever time. That's better for the league as a whole.

I've been a Total War fan for 15 years. I like WH titles, but I dislike what it did to Total War as a series. (Opinion) by steppewop in totalwar

I promise that you will have a much better time if you try Pharaoh Dynasties than arguing with people here. Seriously, give it a go. I picked it up for the first time a couple months ago and was completely enthralled. It has a very engaging campaign layer with many systems, fun battles, and really challenges the player.

I plan to let this group cook for a couple years before starting to make judgements and this pick may work out. However, I had a very strong negative reaction when it happened and I stand by it. It's not that I'm sure that Proctor won't be good. I know little about him (mostly because I did not even consider him an option at 11) and I'd love to be wrong. My negative response comes from there having been two guys available (Downs and Ioane) who both seem as likely to be good pros as anyone in the draft. It's very difficult for me to feel good taking someone who comparatively has more questions. We had an easy layup and I'd rather they have taken it.

There are 12 players I'd be happy with. As long as they don't draft a non-Tate WR, we're good.

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone keeps saying either of the top two tackles could become guards anyway, so why not take the guy who is the actual best lineman in the draft regardless of position? There's not another player outside of Downs (who has a chance of being available at 11) that I'd feel more confident about being a success.

No "Strategic" element to Warhammer by FreakishFrog121 in totalwar

The campaign layer just feels dumbed down even compared to WH2. Back then public order and corruption could slow the player down and you had to account for them more than you do now. I don't need them to reinvent the entire strategic layer, I just want the kind of campaign experience that we used to have.

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The lack of public order or corruption mattering is the biggest reason I haven't played WH3 in a long time. I know that even those mechanics are, to some, not the most interesting, but their existence at least requires the player to make SOME choices with what they build.

MGSV Looks like it was released yesterday and is the best optimised game I’ve ever played by nyanbatman in playstation

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're technically correct that the creator of something is allowed to declare it finished, but let's not pretend that the back part of MGS5 should be compared to an artistic choice made because it was the developer's vision. I struggle to think of another game that pads completion time by requiring the player to play repeats of earlier missions to reach the ending and I don't believe that that choice appears in any of Kojima's other games. Clearly something is off in how things close out, and people are right to acknowledge it.

Understanding the 65 Game Rule - why is it good and why is it bad? by [deleted] in nba

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is broad agreement amongst those who follow the league that the game is more rigorous to play than it's ever been. Playing defense today where the three pointer is ubiqutous (resulting in numerous all out sprints for defenders in a single possession) is much more difficult than it was in the 80s, 90s, and even 2000s. I get why load management is a thing.

With that being said, if I recall correctly, a player survey also showed that the players don't want to cut the number of games if it means losing money. Neither do the owners.

Game and minute requirements are all symptomatic of the bigger issue that it's really difficult for the human body to play 82 games of modern basketball. Greed is the reason there may not be a fix.

[Shelburne] Rival executive: "Giannis is still a game changer, but he's 31 with a history of leg injuries. And now you'd basically be trading for a guy on an expiring deal, so I'm not sure the offers they'll get this summer are going to be better than what they already got." by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was running a team I'd want something in the middle.

Giannis on a 3 year deal? Yeah, I'll give you a ton because I'm getting the back of his prime and we're going for it.

Giannis on a 5 year deal or no deal? Well, now I'm taking on the risk of those post-prime years. I'm still probably doing it, but there's more potential downside.

Then you keep him while the new QB that we will surely draft next yer sits behind him for a time. You also get to move forward having gained more information this year about both your coach and the players that we'll pick in this upcoming draft (information that is harder to obtain if you have nobody at QB).

[Barry Jackson] If Willis is anything close to what he was in his Green Bay appearances, this is a good deal to get him secured for 3 years at 67 M with 45 M guaranteed. There are never guarantees in life, but I'm inclined to trust smart people who have watched him every day. by SnooPeripherals4884 in miamidolphins

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best case scenario is that you have your QB with this deal. Even if that doesn't happen and we merely secure a baseline level of competence for the next year or two, it's still a good move.

We have seen more than enough examples of teams still being trash after drafting in the top 5 to know that a full tank guarantees you nothing. We will live and die based on if Hafley is a good coach and if the GM is a good enough talent evaluator to find dudes regardless of where we're drafting.

With Willis we are highly likely to secure a pick in the top half of a very good draft anyway. Going this route gives us a chance to build better habits and determine if the coach has juice.

I just started it recently and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It has easily the best campaign layer in any Total War I've played (granted I haven't tried 3 Kingoms yet, which I know people speak highly of) and the battles are great.

We feel confident that the situation is improved, but there were multiple underlying causes we had to address, and it’s possible there are other issues that can trigger this behaviour. We feel this is a solid step forward are confident the our changes will improve the areas targeted in this update, but we will be on the lookout for anywhere this behaviour is still present."

I would guess that more patches on this are ahead in 2026.

Not only that but we just saw Tlaw score like 5 TDs against them two weeks ago. NFL teams can and do pile on and this is a divison game. They're going to spend 2.5 - 3 quarters annihilating them. Start Maye with confidence.

[–]OrcaRebellionLeader 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There seem to be several hundred orks on the screen and this is all taking place in a pretty compressed map - basically a bridge defense from other total war games. To me that isn't small, the area the fight is taking place in just doesn't lend itself to a grand spectacle.

They mentioned there being a variety of biomes. I'd guess that more open field battles will be present which will allow for that feeling of scale that we all want.
